1 Oct -Big Fat Liar!

liar

In life we can fall for lies. We get threatening emails, and phone calls telling us our technology devices have been attacked and we are at risk. We hear reports of diseases, viruses, and scary things happening around us every day that we are told we should be concerned about.

Many of these things cause us to become afraid or anxious, which is exactly the intent. Then we will spend our money, time and effort on paying and striving to protect ourselves against these threats.

The truth however is that many of these so called terrible things are in fact lies. Lies, lies and more lies; and the author and originator of them all is the devil himself. He is the one that motivates people towards greed and fear tactics, to believe the worst, because as Jesus said, he is the Father of lies. He is a liar and a thief, and there is no truth in him.

He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44)

The devil’s whole aim is to get at God, and the only way that he can get any kind of revenge and hurt God is to hurt us – the one’s that God loves. He cannot touch God. He cannot cause the great Creator any sort of harm, so instead, he settles for undermining our trust in our Heavenly Father, and trying to separate us from the One who loves us so much. The devil will tell any lie in order to get us to do the wrong thing and to disconnect us from God. However, we don’t have to fall for it …

The devil wants us to believe that he’s stronger than God. “I heard a story of a lady that said she wouldn’t pray out loud because she was afraid that the devil would intercept her prayer before it got to God, However that’s giving the devil more power than God, and that’s a mistake, and a big fat lie!

The devil will do just about anything to get our attention. He whispers lies about almost everything every day. Unfortunately these lies can become so pervasive, that they almost don’t seem like lies anymore, because we listen and start to accept them as truth.

The devil wants us to think badly of God, too. If the devil can get us thinking negatively about our loving Heavenly Father, he will have us doubting God’s loving goodness. That’s nothing new; the first recorded words of the devil as he crawled into the history books were, “Did God really say…? (Genesis 3:1) His very first words were an attempt to introduce a negative thought about God. But the truth is that God is not a negative God – He is full of grace, mercy, and love.”

I for one, am really fed up with the devil’s lies. He is a stinker and there is no good, or truth in him, or his cohorts. He is rotten to the core and we have no business listening, looking or tasting anything he has on offer. Far too often we can fall for his scare tactics, and his lies that whisper “Does God really care about and love you?’ or “How can God love you, look what you just said or done; you’ve let God down, so how can he love and bless you”.

You know Adam and Eve should have grabbed the devil  by the neck back in the garden, and thrown him up against the nearest tree. They should have used their God given authority and dominion to put that rotten liar in his place.

That’s what Jesus did in the desert when the devil came to tempt and lie to Him. He spoke the truth of what the Father had said right back at the devil, and all his rotten lies and temptations came to nothing. (Matthew 4:1-11)

The bible actually says for us to “resist the devil and he will flee.”

“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)

Flee, by the way means to run away, to make a run for it, to be gone, to bolt, beat it, to make a hasty retreat or quick exit.

Our battle is not against what we can see in the natural. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Ephesians 6:12)

That all means that we don’t need to lie down and simply take all the lies and rubbish that the devil’s tries to tell and sell us. We see the lies for what they are, and where they are coming from. Then we surrender and choose to do things God’s way, which gives us confidence to resist the devil; sending him fleeing,  and running out of our lives. Out of our homes, relationships, jobs, finances, churches, street, cities and nations.

And we do that exactly the way Jesus demonstrated. We pick up our sword of the spirit, which is the word of God, and we cut off every lie and scare tactic the devil has come against us with, causing him to flee!

Today stop listening to the lies, and the things that the devil has been trying to make you look at, and believe over what God says. God is good. He loves you and He is faithful to His word. He is faithful even when you may have been faithless. He loves you with an everlasting love and nothing will change that.

Take hold of the truth of what God says about your life, and send the author of lies, the devil packing.

Prayer: Lord thank you that you are truth, and there is no shifting of shadows or deceit in you. I can trust you. Help me to see where I have believed the lies of the devil, so that I can then kick him out of my life. In Jesus name Amen.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:7)
