15th Oct - How to Build a Strong Life by Trusting Jesus Early

This morning, I drove our youngest son Isaac to the train. He’s an apprentice carpenter, and we got talking about life - and how, when you’re young, it’s easy to think you don’t need anyone’s help. You feel strong, capable, and independent.

Isaac spends his days building patios, and we started talking about what would happen if someone tried to hold up the whole roof by themselves. For a while, maybe they could do it - especially if they were young, fit, and strong. But sooner or later, their arms would start to shake, their back would ache, and the weight would become too heavy to hold.

Eventually, it would have to rest on something solid - the support beams and posts that were always part of the design, carrying the weight safely and keeping it standing through wind and weather.

That’s how life is. When we’re young, we think we can hold everything up on our own - our plans, our future, our relationships. We think strength means independence. But it’s a deceptive kind of strength, because no one was ever meant to stand alone or carry the weight of life by themselves.

Even the strongest people crack under pressure when they’re holding everything themselves. The storms come, the wind blows, and what looked steady begins to shift. But the person who builds their life on Jesus - the one who learns to trust Him - stands strong no matter what comes, for it's not our willpower that keeps us steady. It’s who we’ve built on.

The Bible says:

“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength.” - Isaiah 40:30–31 (NIV)
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” - Matthew 7:24 (NIV)

So, today I encourage you to build it right from the start. Don’t wait until the weight or your life and circumstances becomes too heavy or the storms roll in. Let Jesus be the foundation beneath every decision, every dream, and every season of your life.

Because our own strength can fail us, but His support never does.

Action Step: Ask yourself: What part of my life am I trying to hold up on my own? Hand it over to Jesus today.

Think and Say:“I’m not built to carry it all alone. My life is held steady by Jesus, my solid foundation.”

Prayer: Jesus, thank You that I don’t have to stand on my own strength. Teach me to trust You early in every situation and season - not when I’m worn out, but now. Pease help me build every part of my life on You so that whatever happens, I’ll stand steady and strong. In Jesus' name Amen.
