2 August -Love that never fails!

One of the words of advice my husband and I received from one of the pastors who married us, was that when you are having a bad day, or not feeling loving that’s when you need to look to your heavenly Father for His love to fill your hearts. He has all the love you’ll ever need.

In the natural that really doesn’t make much sense, but when we look at life through the lens of the supernatural, then It makes complete sense.

Human love will and can let you down. It gets tired, tetchy, impatient and holds grudges. But when we ask Jesus to come into our lives we connect ourselves with the source of love itself. No longer do we live life in our own ability and strength; we have the ultimate source of all goodness flowing into our lives.

Mankind is created in the image of God, who is love, which means we all have an immense capacity inside of us for love, and for that capacity to keep increasing. The thing is if we try to love like God does, being loving, patient, kind, forgiving etc all by ourselves we will exhaust ourselves. We will soon find ourselves being grumpy, impatient and unlovely with the people we most want to love. That’s because we need God’s love to be continually poured into our hearts.

Next time you are feeling grumpy, and finding it difficult to love others; whether that is your spouse, partner, children, other family members, workmates, friends or just the person in the car in front of you, look to the source of all love.

That’s God; and His love flowing into our lives never fails. It never gives up; it never runs out. His love is always enough, and nothing can separate us from it. We can just be the conduit; for all the love we need for others and ourself. All we need do is let that love, kindness and compassion flow in, and then flow out to all those around us. That’s easier than trying to make our relationships work by ourselves. There is no toil, striving or beating ourselves up about how terrible a person we have been today. We just let His love flow in, and then flow out.

Beloved, let us love one another, because love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”(1 John 4:7-8)

Today spend some time soaking up God’s love for you. Just allow Him to love you, to encourage you, and to fill all the dry and barren places of your heart with His love. If we do that everyday we will soon find that our capacity for loving others will increase, and where we once were impatient and tetchy we will instead will be compassionate and kind. Why? Because God’s love never fails.

“Love endures with patience and serenity, love is kind and thoughtful, and is not jealous or envious; love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant.

It is not rude; it is not self-seeking, it is not provoked [nor overly sensitive and easily angered]; it does not take into account a wrong endured. It does not rejoice at injustice, but rejoices with the truth [when right and truth prevail]. Love bears all things [regardless of what comes], believes all things [looking for the best in each one], hopes all things [remaining steadfast during difficult times], endures all things [without weakening].

Love never fails [it never fades nor ends].“(1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Amplified version)

Prayer: Lord let your love pour into my life today. My ability to be loving all the time runs out fast, but I know that I can have all the love I need from you. Help me to remember when I am being unlovely you still love me, and your love flowing into me will never fail. In Jesus Name. Amen.
