Today has been filled with emergency departments, phone calls and navigating hospital systems and processes. This turn of events was because one of our daughters was rushed to emergency last night and needed what should have been elective but turned out to be emergency surgery today.
As a result, I’ve made numerous cries for help to Jesus and asked for His supernatural, heavenly intervention in prayer. It’s not been an easy day, but I know from experience the need to pause and pray before attacking a problem, and so I’ve mainly managed to do that and thankfully seen God’s hand at work.
Much like a chess game, there have been numerous attacking moves on our daughter and then God’s counter moves to redeem the situation and turn it around for her benefit.
It’s a reminder that there are some things in life we cannot fix ourselves; the task or situation is too big, and we need help, and God says we can ask for Him to intervene on our behalf.
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)
“For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathise with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us, therefore, come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”(Hebrews 4:15-16)
God’s ways are different from ours, and He wants us to know He is there for us so that we can live free from carrying the weight of what we may face or attempt to do alone. But to live like that, we have to live by His ways and not our own. This means that when things cause us to become anxious and worried, God wants us to seek His help and encourages us to:
1. Cast all our cares on Him - when we do that, our concerns become His concern to work out.” Instead of making ourselves miserable trying to figure everything out on our own, we can seek his guidance on what to do or not to do and give the rest over to God to intervene and sort out.
2. Humble ourselves - that means we have to let go of the controls and ask for help. God releases His miracle-working power into our situation when we do that.
God encourages us to: “Cast all our cares [all our anxieties, all our worries, and all our concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about us [with deepest affection, and watches over us very carefully].” (1 Peter 5:7 AMP)
He didn’t create us to live anxious lives and wants to meet our every need and rescue us from all our fears.
Today, I encourage you to try God’s way of doing things. Acknowledge your need, cast all your cares upon Him, ask for His help (He is right there waiting) and then watch His miracle-working power go to work in your life.
“ I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears. Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces. In my desperation, I prayed, and the Lord listened; he saved me from all my troubles. For the angel of the Lord is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him.” (Psalm 34:4-7 NLT)
Prayer: Lord, thank you that you care about me and hold my life and those I care about in your hands. Please help me cast all my cares on you and grow to trust you more. In Jesus Name Amen.
