26 May - Learning To Pivot

I was reminded today whilst meeting with some people of how easy it is to presume we know what's best because we've been doing or thinking in a particular way for a long time. When that happens, it's very easy not to see where adjustments and change are necessary for us to continue to grow and develop, and instead, we can become inflexible.

Having an attitude of inflexibility also makes it difficult for God to lead us. Instead, we can become rigid, controlling, lacking in spontaneity, a slave to our packed schedules and goals, and even fearful.

God, however, wants us to learn how to flow along with Him and what He is doing. That doesn't mean we don't achieve our goals, nor is it an excuse to be "flakey"; it just means we are happy to rest in whatever God is doing in our day. It's choosing to make plans with Him to the best of our understanding whilst remaining open for Him to shift or change where and what we are doing, sometimes at a moment's notice.

Why? Because we see through our perspective and knowledge of a situation, but He sees everything! The question is, "Will we follow and let Him lead, or will we be independent, stubborn, and inflexible?"

Today, make your plans, but don't make them too inflexible. Leave room to pivot if you need to and for spontaneity. Watch out for those "God set-ups" because they are a lot of fun, and awesome things happen when we learn to follow God's flow right now.

Seek God and ask Him to teach you how to be more flexible as you trust Him to lead you into all that He has been working on and planning for you today.

"I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go. I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Do not be as the horse or mule which have no understanding, whose trappings include bit and bridle to hold them in check otherwise they will not come near to you". (Psalm 32:8-9)

Prayer: Lord, thank you that you promise to lead and guide me every day. Please help me be more flexible and trusting so that I am willing and ready at a moment's notice to change or alter my plans to follow your lead. You take the lead, Jesus, and I" ll follow. In Jesus name Amen
