26 Oct – Defeating the darkness

“To defeat the darkness out there, you must defeat the darkness within yourself”. (C.S. Lewis – Voyage of the Dawn Treader)

Evil tries to manipulate, negotiate, tempt and ultimately control. The author of evil is Satan himself. He is evil and wicked and there is no good or love in Him. He seeks and plans to kill, rob and destroy everything and everyone”.  (John 10:10)

He attempts to play on our weaknesses, pride, fears, desires and anywhere else we allow him to get a foothold on in our lives. His tactics are fear, intimidation, lies and negotiation. He is the ultimate terrorist, and he doesn’t care who he uses, hurts or destroys to carry out his plan of keeping people ignorant, hard hearted and separated from Jesus and the knowledge of His love, forgiveness and victory over evil through the finished work of the cross.

The key to living free from the threat of darkness overwhelming us is to acknowledge God and ask for Him to lead and guide our lives. As soon as we make that decision Satan loses his hold and dominion over us. The darkness within us is defeated, and God’s light and goodness floods our spirit and soul.

“For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light”. (Ephesians 5:8)

The more we understand who we are as part of God’s family the less opportunity evil has of gaining a new foothold in our lives and hearts. Instead we can choose daily to surrender to God’s love and goodness so that His light and power floods our lives rather than darkness.

We let go of and turn away from anything that is evil so that Jesus can set us free from it, and then we stand firm and no longer allow ourselves to be burdened by the yoke of darkness again. We seek to choose Jesus everyday and those things that are good, pure and of good report, for then Jesus’ light within us will defeat and dispel darkness every time. (Ephesians 5 :11-14)

Today let the light of God’s love and forgiveness fill your whole being. Bring any evil and darkness within your heart and mind out of the shadows and into the light and start living free.

“Is is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery”. (Galatians 5:1)

“Whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report,  if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things”. (Philippians 4:8)

“For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night.” (1 Thessalonians 5:5)

“Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God”. (1 Peter 2:16)

Prayer: Lord let the light of your love flood my heart and soul today, dispelling darknessvand replacing it with the light of your love. I choose to follow you and the way of love today. In Jesus name Amen
