“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord He is my refuge and my fortress, My God in Him will I trust” (Psalm 91:1-2)
As a child, I learnt to have a special place with Jesus. I would sit on the hill behind our house, surrounded by green grass and sheep, on the farm I grew up on in the South Island of NZ.
Even as a child, I figured out that if I got an image of myself with Jesus, I would end up experiencing and relating to Him in a very real way.
Now, as an adult, I understand that one of the ways God speaks and reveals Himself to us is in pictures, images and visions and that what may start as our imagination can be an “on-ramp” into heavenly realms as we activate our faith to seek Him.
“And without faith, it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
Paul speaks in 2 Cor 12:2 of “visions and revelations whether in the body I do not know or whether out of the body I do not know – God knows – such as one was caught up to the third heaven, up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words”.
John saw Heaven -Revelation 1:10 “ I was in the spirit on the Lord’s day and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet ….”
I’ve taught our children and many others to connect with Jesus and heaven in the same way, and I’ve been amazed by some of the heavenly encounters people have had.
I believe God wants us to have a secret and special place with Him where we set our minds and hearts on heavenly things. It’s where our true home is, and He is always waiting to spend time and share His heart with us. We only need to take the time to find our secret place with Him.
“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” (Colossians 3:1)
‘You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)
Today I encourage you to connect with Jesus. Focus on Him. It can help to get an image of yourself and Jesus in a place where you can rest. It could be sitting together on a park bench, out fishing, in a field, or under a tree, just relaxing and enjoying each other’s company. As you talk to Jesus, let Him talk and share with you in the secret place.
Prayer: Lord, I come to you today and set my mind on heavenly places. I focus my attention upon you and rest in you and my place with you. Please speak to me today. In Jesus name Amen.
