Today I woke up with a raging sore throat and earache. We are away for a few days on holidays with the kids, and this was the last thing I wanted. As I lay in bed I had to make a decision; Do I lie in bed groaning that I feel terrible, and why did I have to get sick on our holiday, or do put my faith to work?
I decided to get myself out of bed, make breakfast for my husband and our younger two children, and to play the healing scriptures I have recorded on my iPod. As I listened to all the accounts recorded in God’s word of Jesus healing all who came to him for healing I started to speak. I spoke out my healing, and claimed God’s promises. I chose to stand up on the inside and to march back and forth across the bedroom floor commanding every bacteria, virus, flu, and symptom to shrivel up and get off my body. I bound the demonic forces that can try to bring sickness, and told them emphatically to “take a hike”.
I did that because I know the bible says, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)
“Praise the Lord, my soul; and forget not all his benefits; who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases; who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” (Psalm 103:2-5)
You could say I got a little feisty, which in my opinion is the best way, and how we need to be when anything comes at us trying to steal, kill or destroy things in our lives. I have discovered that all burdens and bondage originate from the devil; but what can be lacking is the faith to stand against His tactics. (John 10:10)
Not only did I claim healing for my body, I also gave thanks, and prayed for everything and everyone else that came to my mind and heart. Within a short time I was ready to shower, dress and enjoy the rest of my day. No cancelling of plans, and no pain or discomfort.
Why did my faith work today? Why was I able to continue enjoying my holiday with my family free from sickness? It was because I have learnt that Jesus delivered to me my healing, blessing and breakthrough over 2000 years ago on a wooden cross. He not only conquered sin and death, but every sickness, lack, poverty, torment and bondage ever known to mankind. And when He rose back to life He accomplished all I would ever need to be able to live in health, prosperity, and full and abundant life. It’s already been done; all I need do is allow that truth to get down on the inside of me, so that His word abides within me. When I speak the truth out and stir up the word inside of me, it goes to work for me. (Colossians 2:14-15)
Jesus said it this way. “If you abide in My word you are truly my disciples. And you will know the truth and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31)
The problem is that many people simply do not know or appropriate what Jesus has already done for them, so the devil just keeps “hammering” them with rubbish!
Today however I encourage you to look at God’s word and discover afresh, or maybe for the very first time what Jesus’ work on the Cross of Calvary has done for you. Look at the miracles Jesus did, and what He said, and then take a stand of your own and put your faith to work. What Jesus did then, He will still do now. What He did for me today, He will do for others. “For He is the same yesterday, today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
It’s not that some are “more worthy or loved than others” and that’s why their faith seems to “work” better for them. For the moment we ask Jesus to be part of our lives we are all given a measure of faith, it’s just that some people decide to put theirs to work more, and as they do their faith is strengthened.
What are you going to do with your measure of faith today, and what do you need to put it to work on? Jesus has already won your victory; but we do have to grab hold of it by faith.
