3 April – Pick and Choose

The Bible says we are made in God’s image. Unlike the original design of the rest of creation, God designed man from Himself, using Himself as the pattern. (Genesis 1:26-27) When God created man, He actually copied Himself.

The only difference between mankind and God was that unlike God, who is eternally sovereign and independent, men and women were created to be dependent on God.

In life we are constantly faced with choices. The more affluent we are the more choices we have. That is a blessing, but therein lies the dilemma. Instead of living dependent on God as we walk in our God given faith, power and authority , we can often pick and choose when we will live dependent on God, and when we will live self dependent.

But we are not true to our profession of being Christians, if we pick and choose for ourselves. Jesus is to be our Saviour: we like that bit; but He is also to be our Lord. That means our will surrendered and dependent on Him. Picking and choosing are the great enemies to surrender and abiding in Him. If we really belong to Him we say,”lead me, and do what seems good to you.”

We can trust Jesus to lead because He loves us. He is The Good Shepherd. He always gives us a choice to pick, and follow Him, or choose another way.

Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.”(John 10:10-11)

He has an eternal heavenly perspective that sees the past, present and future. When you consider that truth it is easier to choose to let go of self dependence, and be dependent on Jesus, who chose to give His life, conquered sin and death, and sees all?

“We know love by this, that He (Jesus) laid down His life for us.” (John 3:16)

“From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. (Psalm 33:3; Hebrews 4:13)

It’s a daily choice whether we follow Jesus wholeheartedly, or fall into the habit of picking and choosing only what we like or feel comfortable with.

Take  a step of faith and pick Jesus, and let Him lead you today!

Prayer: Lord forgive me where I have not allowed you to truly lead me, and instead I have chosen to pick and choose only what I like. Help me to understand how much you love me, so that I can trust your judgement and wisdom to lead and direct my steps. Let my prayer today be as Psalm 143:8 says, “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life” In Jesus name Amen.
