“When one door of happiness closes, another opens. But often we look so long at the closed door we do not see the one which has been opened for us” (Helen Keller)
Our lives and hearts can get so cluttered with disappointments, cares and distractions, we can’t see or hear where God is and where He is leading. Our hearts can get a bit like my Tupperware cupboard, with stuff spilling everywhere and a recommendation to everyone that says; “don’t touch or everything will come crashing out everywhere”.
The solution is to sort out and unload. Sometimes we simply need to get rid of some of the clutter. Jesus encourages us to “cast all your cares (anxiety) on him because he cares for you”, for he carried all your sorrows“. (1 Peter 5:7; Isaiah 53)
When we de-clutter, and unload we recognise our past, and acknowledge it. Then we have a choice. Do we stay immersed in the past or move on? Sometimes our past isn’t all bad, but God wants us to be living in the now, and looking to the future. God may need to disassemble and clear out some things to give us a firmer foundation in Him.
Life is full of possibilities. Our attitude toward situations determines who we are and who we will become. Every person comes into the world with incredible potential for greatness. God has a plan and a place for each of us, that he prepared in advance. In Psalms David said “I called upon the Lord in distress; The Lord answered me, and set me in a large place” (Psalm 118:5). “We went through the fire and through the water, but you brought us to a place of abundance”. (Psalm 66:12)
Don’t keep looking a the door that’s closed for so long that you miss the one which has been opened.
Face your past, and your fears. Acknowledge them, then unload and cast the weight and load of them onto Jesus. Let him carry them and “hit that load clear out of here”. Then move on and walk through the new door He is opening for you.
“but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13)
Prayer: Lord I want to move on. Help me to see the plan and place you have for me, and that it’s time to move on from so things in my life. Help me to to understand that when one door closes you will open another for me to walk through that leads to a place of abundance and blessing. Thank you that you make all things work out together for my good. I choose to give it all to you. In Jesus name. Amen.
