“There will never be another now, so I’ll make the most of this day.” “There will never be another me, so I’ll make the most of myself.”
Everyone is a somebody. That’s how we have been created. We each have significance and value. However a lot of how we live out being the “somebody” we were made to be, is found in our attitudes. It’s the way we look at life, and how we choose to see and respond to events situations, people and ourselves. Our attitude is not something that happens to us, we get to be involved in its architecture. It’s created by our beliefs, values and thoughts. We get to choose whether our thoughts are positive or negative, and how we will perceive and process the events of our life.
Attitudes have a direct impact on how we communicate and collaborate with others, how we contribute in the environment around us, and how we perform our daily tasks and responsibilities. It shapes our successes and our happiness. We can however all hold onto attitudes that restrict rather than empower, and deplete rather than benefit our lives.
Our attitudes are contagious. Is yours worth catching?
Here are some great attitudes to embrace:
1.Humble attitude – “Whoever humbles themselves will be exalted”. (Matthew 23:12) It’s our choice to humble ourselves, to have a willingness to take on a task like a servant (you humble yourself).
2.Happy attitude “happy are the people whose God is the Lord”. (Psalm 144:15) All of has an immense capacity for joy and happiness.
A good place to harness this attitude is to recognize the gift available to each one of us of a relationship with Jesus. When we focus on that relationship and not on our circumstances our perspective and attitudes change from negative to positive. Jesus said, “in this world we would have trials, but to take heart for He has overcome the world”. (John 16:33)
A problem free life is an illusion, a mirage in the desert, and dangerously deceptive. It can mislead, blind, distract and be a complete waste of our energy when we pursue a problem free life. Instead seek after Jesus and he promises He will take care of the rest.
“Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ “For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.…(Matthew 6:32)
3. Positive attitude: It releases creativity and freedom. It looks at the possibilities instead of the impossible. A positive attitude holds dreams, and aspirations, and knows that all things are possible with God. A positive attitude reduces stress, attacks our fears and keeps our dreams and passion for life alive.
4. Willing attitude – a willing attitude releases in us the ability to do the job. God steps in where we run out. Our will gets out of the way, allowing God to move. Jesus is a great example of the difference a willing attitude can make. He said “not my will Father but yours”, “whatever I see you doing I’ll do” Willingness gives us energy because we are not using our energy fighting God’s directives. His power is able to flow into our life, as we are willing to listen and be directed, releasing new strategies and bringing tremendous blessing.
God’s heart is for us to become everything He created us to be. At times in our life we need to stop and honestly assess what’s going on in the inside, and who we really are. It’s a bit like when we have an x-ray and allow the light to shine on all the formerly hidden parts of our being.
In the process it’s important to remember not to allow fear to motivate any negative unproductive attitudes. Instead we can ask Holy Spirit to reveal anything that needs adjusting. We aren’t fooling God when we try to hide what is really the attitude of our hearts towards Him or those around us. He loves us completely and totally just the way we are, but He also loves us too much to leave us struggling with attitudes that are only holding us back from walking in all that we could be.
As you quietly spend time in God’s presence today, allow Him to shine His light on what is really going on in the inside of you. Allow him to shift toxic attitudes, to bring healing, lasting change and an amazing attitude towards life and those you share it with.
Prayer: Thank you Jesus that you love me so much. That you see the condition of my inner world even before I am conscious of it. Please work within my heart, removing any way in me that is not pleasing to you, as you show me a better way. I want to live with a great attitude towards you and others. In Jesus name Amen.
