4 Jan - Shape Your New Year - Choose Your One Word

A helpful key to assist you in remaining focused on the things that truly matter is having a word or theme for the year. Once you feel like you have a specific word keep it in front of you; place it on your vision board and phone, alongside all that you want to achieve for the year as a daily reminder. For example, if it's the word freedom, then your plans are directed upon freedom – financial freedom, spiritual freedom, emotional freedom etc.

It takes faith and courage to not merely exist but to live with purpose and joy, and define what God wants you to concentrate on each day.

A word/theme for the year where you have inquired after God about what He wants you to grow and focus on helps you stay the course and picks you up when you may feel discouraged or in a muddle.

I love the apostle Paul’s passionate words about what his life was all about. Paul said, “For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly]” (Philippians 3:8 AMP)

Paul lived an amazing, exciting, meaningful life. Regardless of the highs and lows, he remained steadfast and fulfilled His calling. As a result, he was able to say towards the end of his life, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)

Today I encourage you to take steps to utilise the simple and powerful tool of identifying a “Word” or “theme” for the new year. Ask God to reveal and clarify it to you by asking the question, “What do you want to do in and through me this year?

Then write down what comes to your mind and resonates in your heart.

One word/theme can change and transform everything. Keep it where you can see it as a regular reminder and share it with those in your world so they can encourage you too.
