Tonight, we were meant to be celebrating our Uni results coming in and having a movie night. Some of us were very happy with our results and others were not so much..but regardless of all our marks, we decided today was a good day to celebrate our endeavors.
We are however a busy, noisy, and large household, and invariably things often don’t go to plan. My hubby came home not feeling well, someone else was upset about something and dinner went a little awry with no decision made as to what movie we were to watch all together
This is when decisions needed to be made as to whether we’d fight for things to improve and for us to still spend time together or give up and everyone go their separate ways for the evening.
Connection and good communication between others in a friendship, family, workplace, or wherever there are people, takes patience, time, practice, and a willingness to put effort and care into both understanding and being understood.
Sometimes, as I discovered tonight you have to be prepared to fight for connection, and quality time together. This is why after some deliberation we managed to choose a movie that everyone was interested in watching, ordered chocolate sundaes to be delivered, and bundled up together with blankets and our pj’s to watch what turned out to be a great movie.
The most important commandment Jesus gave us is to love God and love others (Matthew 22:34-40). Healthy relationships are so important that God didn’t just suggest we treat others well; He commanded it.
To do that however will take creativity, prayer, time, and effort for you to stay connected. Especially in a world where you have so many options and busyness, which can crowd out the importance of relationships. But it is worth the effort for we weren't created to do life alone.
Today, I encourage you to fight for time and connection. Make some space in your schedule and look for ways to check in with those significant people in your world. Get creative, order some ice cream, do something together, and make the most of the day, because you won't come this way again.
Jesus said, “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” (John 15:12)
“Do to others as you would have them do to you.” (Luke 6:31)
“Do everything in love”. (Corinthians 16:14)
Two are better than one, for if either of them falls, one can help the other up.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)
Prayer: Lord thank you for those you have placed in my world. Please help me to make time to connect with them so that I would build relationships that are healthy, strong and lasting. In Jesus name Amen
