This morning I decided it was time for a detox and deep cleanse. It's been a while, and my skin was looking and feeling dull and polluted.
Today's simple detox made me realise how important it is to stop and cleanse our bodies and our minds, hearts, and spirits. We daily absorb pollutants that affect our bodies, but we also absorb things that can pollute and "block" up our thoughts, emotions and spirit in much the same way.
Unless we take the time to cleanse our inner life, we can become so accustomed to the grime of the world around us and the stress and burdens of our everyday lives we don't even realise how much we are carrying within us and how weighed down we are.
We know that a regular detox for our physical bodies is beneficial, but detoxing our inner world, minds, hearts, and spirits is also valuable to live our lives to the fullest.
We can easily pick up and carry burdens and loads we were never designed to carry. It's why Jesus says to cast all our cares upon Him because He cares for us, to forgive others, to seek Him, and to pray about everything instead of worrying. (1 Peter 5:7; Phil 4:4-6; Matthew 6:14-16)
Detoxing your inner world means taking time to examine your thoughts, mindsets, and hearts.
Are you holding grudges, unforgiveness, bitterness, burdens, or other hurts? What dreams and goals are you working towards? How are your relationships with God and others, and what positive influences, people, and places are you surrounding yourself with?
Today I encourage you to schedule some time to detox with Jesus. It will help to cleanse out the grime of the world, the cares you have been carrying, and any attitudes, habits or hurts that have been dulling your shine.
Jesus said it this way...."Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30)
Prayer: Lord, please help me be more aware of my inner world's health and ensure that I make time to regularly detox from the things that would pollute and weigh down my mind, heart, and spirit. I'm giving it all to you and ask that you cleanse and bring rest and peace to my life as I make time to detox. In Jesus name Amen.
