People can wander aimlessly through life missing opportunities and the chance to live a life of meaning. The bible says “Where there is no vision the people perish”. (Proverbs 29:18)
To facilitate vision God has given us an imagination, and an ability to have vision for the future. I guess in a way that’s God helping us make a bucket list (see blog post 8-April for more thoughts).
Our imagination gives us the ability or power of God to go to new places in God. “If you can see, you can get there”. It’s not simply operating in our natural vision, its stepping into revelation and discerning God’s plan and will for our lives. For example we are to “see” the victory. If you can’t see it you probably won’t have it.
God wants us to stop thinking the imaginations of the devil. He wants us to stimulate our imaginations with His words.
The devil knows the power of imagination. He peddles, fear, doubt, unbelief, hopelessness, and self focused images. Just turn on the television and take note of how much of the vision being transported into our homes is the complete opposite to the vision God desires us to see. We need be careful we don’t let other forces try to influence our imaginations away from God’s best for us.
God wants to stimulate our imaginations, and when you start dealing with God get ready to start seeing and imagining big.
He promises when we imagine that He “is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us”. (Ephesians 3:20)
You can’t think too big for God. If we focus on His way of thinking and doing, then all things are possible for those who believe.
“Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8)
“I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]” (Philippians 4:13)
With that in mind we can work on our bucket lists. The whole point of creating a list is to maximize every moment of our existence and live our life to the fullest. It’s a reminder of all the things we want to achieve in our time here, so that instead of wandering aimlessly and wasting our time in pointless activities, we are directing it fully toward what matters to us.
So let yourself imagine; understanding that our imaginations are the containers that hold the plans of God for us.
Here is some thoughts to get you started imagining. Ask yourself: What would you do if you had unlimited time, money and resources? What have you always wanted to do but have not done yet? Any countries, places or locations you want to visit? What are your biggest goals and dreams? What do you want to see in person? What achievements do you want to have? What experiences do you want to have / feel? Are there any special moments you want to witness? What activities or skills do you want to learn or try out? What are the most important things you can ever do? What would you like to say/do together with other people? People you love? Family? Friends? Are there any specific people you want to meet in person? What do you want to achieve in the different areas: Social, Love, Family, Career, Finance, Health (Your weight, Fitness level), Spiritual? What do you need to do to lead a life of the greatest meaning?
Imagine and see Big, because God says He”ll do more! Then write it down, and keep it where you can see it.
Prayer: Jesus please help me to imagine more deeply in you, and see your vision for my life. Take the limits off my life Lord. In Jesus Name Amen.
