The definition of treasure is wealth (such as money, jewels, or precious metals), which have been stored up, hoarded or buried. It is something or someone of great worth or value.
Most people love the idea of a treasure hunt and the thrill of looking for and finding something that has been hidden away. That’s because treasures are precious things, which are not common. Only few people found them, and such people are considered lucky in life.
Perhaps that’s why Jesus referred to the Kingdom of heaven being like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. (Matthew 13:44)
The treasure of the Kingdom of heaven is Jesus who came into the world to save us. He is like a treasure hidden in the field where everybody passes daily yet they do not see Him. Yet when we begin to look we will easily find him and the entrance into heavenly things. We find answered prayer, signs and wonders, miracles, healing, provision and everything we need.
God has also supplied a map to guide us to hidden treasures and secrets of the Kingdom. The Bible is His map and in it we find God’s secrets to establish us for life. However it takes time and commitment to go on a treasure hunt, and it’s no different with the treasure hidden in the Bible. It’s worth taking the time, giving up other pursuits and making a commitment to find God’s treasure, to take time to read and think on what the Bible has to say. It will then reveal to us the secret treasures of Heaven for us on earth.
“I will go before you and make the rough places smooth; I will shatter the doors of bronze and cut through their iron bars. I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden wealth of secret places, so that you may know that it is I, the Lord God of Israel who calls you by your name”. (Isaiah 45:3)
“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid again; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field”. (Matthew 13:44)
Don’t keep passing Jesus by on your journey today. Instead look for Him and you will find Him and all the treasures of heaven.
