1 Aug – Every time you speak!

prophesy to your future

I was listening to something today that reminded me of the importance of what we say and how our words shape our lives, not just for now but also for our future.

Essentially the quality of our words shapes our reality, which means if we want today, tomorrow and the rest of our lives to be full of blessing, health, joy and fulfilment it would be wisdom for us to regularly assess the words we are speaking and make changes if what we are saying doesn’t match up with what we desire our lives and circumstances to look like.

As I thought upon my expectation and the words I speak I was reminded of how I wrote down and started to speak out what I desired in a husband when I was still a teenager. God spoke to me one day from Psalm 37:4 in the bible which says, “delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” I knew even as an seventeen year old that if I had a Word from God to hold onto then I could pretty much “take it to the bank”. So I prayerfully made a list of what I desired in the man I was going to spend the rest of my life with even though I had never met him. Thirty years later I can still remember part of that list being that the man God was preparing would love and cherish me, and love God with all his heart; I did add that it would be good if he was nice to look at too 🙂

Not long after I’d started prophesying about my future spouse, I met a handsome, passionate for Jesus, smiling, (with dimples included) young man, who amazingly fitted my list and who has loved and cherished me ever since. I essentially prophesied the desire of my heart and pulled God’s favour and plan for my life into reality.

Over the years we have followed the same principle and put our words to work many times. Our words have shaped our reality when it came to our six children, our marriage, our finances, our health, and in relation to the people in our world. It hasn’t meant we haven’t had tough times, but I believe it is because we kept speaking or prophesying what God had laid on our hearts for our lives and future that we have always had the resolve to get back up from a disappointment, overcome sickness, persevere through setbacks and consistently see God’s blessing and favour demonstrated in our lives.

We are made in God’s image and expected to imitate His way of being and doing things. (Genesis 1:27; Ephesians 5:1) When we understand that it was by God’s Word that creation came into being, and that it is by His powerful Word that the world is held together, we can start to see how powerful our words are designed to be to create the life and future we live.

“For in Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him.  He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together”. (Colossians 1:16-17 Berean Bible)

“The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.“ (Hebrews 1:3 NIV)

Every time you speak you are prophesying to your future, so today don’t simply  look at your circumstances and settle for only what you have right now. Go to God’s Word, spend time listening to what He has to say about your life and then start to frame up your language and words to shape your future and the reality of a life that is amazingly blessed, healthy, prosperous, free, and heaven filled.

“From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled; with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied. The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”(Proverbs 18: 20-21 NIV)

For,“Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech.” (1 Peter 3:10 NIV)

Prayer: Lord I’m putting your words in my mouth so that they would go down deep on the inside of me transforming the image I have of myself, and changing the reality I see before me. I expect favour and blessing to come into my life today and I declare that I am strong, healthy and full of joy today. In Jesus name Amen
