Over the last few weeks I have had to check myself as to how I respond to the circumstances that are going on around me, especially with all the noise around me. At times it feels like the world has been turned on it’s head and it can all get very distracting and exhausting if we allow it to affect us too much.
Fortunately one of the ways we can effectively stay focused on running our race well and from slipping up on things that aren’t beneficial for our life is to have a clear vision of the person we want to be.
We have to have a reason to be different and to control our natural desire to get annoyed, impatient or give into our fears and weaknesses; a vision for who we want to be so that the force of that vision is more powerful than any moment of weakness or temptation.
A clear vision will help you from wandering off track and motivate you to continually allow God to work to shape your character and life, even when that hurts or is frustrating.
Today I encourage you to take some time to think carefully about the person you want to become and what the best version of you looks, acts and sounds like because that invariably is who Jesus says you are.
What are your deepest values, dreams and goals?
What is Jesus saying about your future and the plan He has for your life?
Who and what sort of man or woman do you want to be?
Write down what that looks like and means with regard to the choices, places and people you associate with, the decisions you make and the life you lead both in public and private.
God wants you to be the best version of yourself, and if you allow His hand to guide and direct your life, He will strengthen and help you even in your weakest moments to walk away from temptation, make great decisions and keep the vision before you.
“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” (Philippians 1:6)
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, he will also provide the way of escape that you may be able to endure. (1 Corinthians 10:13)
“For God gave us a spirit, not of fear but power and love and self-control. (2 Timothy 1:7)
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” ( Joshua 1:9)
“So be careful how you live. Don’t live like ignorant people, but likewise people. Make good use of every opportunity you have because these are evil days.” (Ephesians 5:15-16) Prayer: Lord, please empower me to become the best version of myself – the me I want to be. That you would help me walk away from temptation and that my life would become so full as I become the best version of me. In Jesus Name Amen.
