Today is my 50th birthday, and I have been busy celebrating for the last few days. Since it’s my 50th birthday year, I’ve decided that I will do something every month from now on to celebrate.
One of our children asked me how I felt about being 50, and I said it is just a number. A lot of the time, age is a state of mind and attitude, and I feel blessed to be alive and healthy. I have much to be thankful for.
Today as I reflected on my birthday, I concluded that I am very blessed to be alive. If you look at history, many of our great-great-grandparents never lived to experience 50 years as the life expectancy was once only 30 – 45 years of age. Even now, many people don’t live to see old age.
I’m discovering that a life well-lived is one where we are grateful for every single day. Regardless of whether life is going exactly as we would like it, God always has a plan and wants us to learn to trust him. He will work all things together for our good, and If things aren’t good yet, then God’s not finished working yet.
It’s also about making love our primary focus and goal. Are we learning to love and seeking to express that through our words and actions? Because it’s not just about success, how many beautiful possessions, cars, houses or fancy holidays we take in our lives that will cause us to leave a legacy and bring us the happiness we desire. It’s the imprint we make on the hearts of those God brings into my world that will make the biggest impact.
As Mother Teresa once said, “It’s not so much what you do, but how much love you put into what you do.”
Today whether it’s your birthday or not, give thanks for the life you have and focus on making love your primary goal.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for all that you have done in my life and all the people in my world. Please help me focus on what’s important and expect you to exceedingly more in my life today. In Jesus name Amen
