My husband and I have just finished dropping one of our daughters off again at the airport to travel home to where she now lives on the other side of the country. It’s an occupational hazard of being people who encourage people, and especially our children to become all they were created to be and to go after their dreams and the destiny God has placed in their hearts. Sometimes that means doing things that cost you; that are going to cause you to be uncomfortable, stretched, pushed to the limit and even to feel at times like you are very alone.
It pays to count the cost of whatever our dream and the destiny that is calling us is. To know the “why” in why we are doing things. Why we are choosing to push ourselves beyond our present limits so as to grow and develop. Then when we hit the hard times, the “goodbyes’, the loneliness, the disappointments, and we’re being stretched we will be able to remind ourselves what it is all for. (Luke 14:28) Lots of people have nice thoughts and can talk about doing something great and amazing. But unless we count the cost, regularly measure our progress, choose to adjust, assess and continually determine to grow we will more than likely never begin in the first place or if we do grow disheartened when it gets a bit hard and give up.
Today as usual it hurt to see our daughter leave again. But it was also so great to see her, even with tears streaming down her face as she said goodbye, get on that plane and know that she is determined to run her race and that she runs to win!
“Do you know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” (1 Corinthians 9:24 NIV)
Wherever you are and whatever dream is in your heart know that God will help you to walk in wisdom, strength and clarity if you ask Him. He wants us to live our best life and promises that if we “delight in Him he will grant us the desires of our heart.” (Psalm 37:4) Before we were even born He had a plan for us, and good things for us to walk in. Determine today to seek Him and trust that He will direct your steps, pick you up if you stumble and protect you as you run towards your destiny and the dream in your heart.
“The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.”(Psalm 37:23 NLT)
“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”(Philippians 4:13)
“Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it.”(Habakkuk 2:2)
Prayer: Lord thank you that you have a plan and purpose for my life. Please help me to have wisdom to walk in it and to grow in clarity and purpose so that I will run my race well and to the finish. In Jesus name Amen.
