The Bible says, “For as He thinks in His heart so is He” (Proverbs 23:7), which is why it's important what we believe and think about ourselves.
Daily affirmations or self-talk based on what God says about us are helpful tools in achieving freedom from the ruts we can find ourselves in. When we think and speak the truth about our lives and future instead of any negative, limiting beliefs and mindsets, we can be transformed, especially when we affirm what God says about us.
The Bible says, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2)
A helpful key is to take time each day to close our eyes and imagine ourselves as God says we are and what we want to be. By allowing ourselves to imagine and “see” ourselves attaining the goals we set and what God says about us, it becomes easier to overcome the hurdles that can block our way.
For example, if you’re a smoker, visualize yourself as a non-smoker daily. If you desire to be fit and healthy, an overcomer, diligent in your studies, peaceful, loving etc, then begin to visualise yourself that way, and you will begin to see this image of yourself slowly replacing the current one. This is one way we can begin to tell a different story about who we are and begin to believe and act upon whom God says we are.
Find a quiet place without distractions and think about what you desire to happen today or, if in the evening, what has happened throughout the day. Think about what you did right instead of what you did wrong and any positives of your day.
Here are some positive affirmations to help you get started:
“I am a new creature in Christ: old things have passed away, behold, all things are new”. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
“No weapon that is formed against me shall prosper” (Isaiah 54:17)
“I prosper in everything I put my hand to. I have prosperity in all areas of my life–spiritually, financially, mentally, and socially.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
“I take every thought captive unto the obedience of Jesus Christ, casting down every imagination and every high and lofty thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.” (2 Corinthians 10:5)
“As a man thinks in his heart, so is he; therefore, my thoughts are positive.” (Proverbs 23:7)
“I cast all my care on the Lord, for He cares for me.” (1 Peter 5:7)
“I don’t have a spirit of fear but of power and love and a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)
I am creative because the Holy Spirit lives in me.” (John 14:26; 1 Corinthians 6:19)
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)
“Jesus took up all my infirmities and carried all my diseases. I am healed.” (Isaiah 54:3; Matthew 8:17; 1 Peter 2:24)
Today talk to yourself the way you would talk to your best friend.
Prayer: Lord, thank you that with your help and wisdom, I can get out of any ruts and negative mindsets and behaviours I find myself in and be instead transformed into the person you have created me to be. Help me to think upon and speak only the things you say about me today. In Jesus name Amen.
