10th July - How Lifting Weights Taught Me to Trust Jesus in My Weakness

When I workout, I've noticed that one side of my body—my right, is a lot stronger than my left. After carrying six babies on my right hip over the years, it makes sense. But now when I lift weights, my left side struggles. I literally can't lift as much with that arm, and I can feel the imbalance.

It made me think how life can be a little like that too.

We all have strong sides -the parts of us we know how to use, rely on, lean into. But we also have weaker areas. Gaps. Struggles. Things that haven’t developed the same way, maybe because we’ve carried life a certain way for so long. Maybe it’s emotional, spiritual, or even relational, and when those weaknesses show up, we can feel disappointed or discouraged. But here’s the thing: those weak points don't have to be seen as a problem. They’re an invitation.

Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV), “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

You don’t have to focus on your flaws. But you can choose to grow. You don’t need to be perfect. But you can seek wholeness in Him. And as you keep showing up, choosing to strengthen what might feel a little weaker in you, whether that’s your confidence, your identity, your knowledge of who Jesus is—you’ll find His power meets you in the process. His grace fills every gap. And the parts of you that once felt like a struggle become places of testimony of how Jesus can work in and through you.

You might not lift the same weight on both sides of who you are yet. But I encourage you to keep growing. Keep going. And keep applying the truth of who He says you are. Then you’ll be lacking nothing (James 1:4, NIV).

Action Steps:

  1. Identify one area in your life where you feel a bit “weaker” right now.

  2. Ask Jesus to fill that space with His strength.

  3. Choose one small action this week to grow in that area.

"Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”James 1:4 (NIV)

Prayer: Jesus, thank You that I don’t have to have it all together to be loved or accepted by you. Please show me how to grow in the areas where I feel lacking, and remind me that Your strength is more than enough. I trust You with the process. Please help me to walk in truth and grace today. In Jesus name Amen.
