We can all have attachments to our past, even if we no longer go to those places, have any connection in the physical or even think of particular people and places anymore. They can be unseen, unconscious attachments that, to some degree, still have a hold on us.
The fact is, God can have memorials in our lives, but the devil can too."
We can make memorials of all the relationships and experiences, both good and bad, that tie us to the past for a very long time. When we finally let them loose, either by dismantling, deleting, re-organising, or selling, we start to feel different and more able to run into our future.
Perhaps so many people don't live out their destiny because they are dragging around all these attachments that are like memorials to their past that they no longer need or benefit from looking at anymore.
It's like when you delete photos, contacts or messages off your phone. There's real freedom to be found in pressing delete or putting certain things and relationships we've had or have in their rightful place.
The bible says, "Don't you realise that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!" (1 Corinthians 9:24)
Today I encourage you to look within your heart and around you. Be thankful and acknowledge the great moments and relationships in your life? Learn from and cherish them.
But also be aware of memorials that the devil has worked in your life that you're better off deleting?
Are there items that you have that you can sell off or throw away because they hold you to a time you don't need to carry forward? Are there people that are tying you to another season, role, or relationship that may not be healthy for your future?
Today in the words of the writer of Hebrews, "Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we're in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he's there, in the place of honour, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!" (Hebrews 12:1-2 The Message)
Prayer: Lord, I'm giving over everything to you and deleting anything that is not a memorial to you or helpful for me to move forward with. Please help me to fix my eyes on you and who you say I am today. In Jesus name Amen.
