14 July – Know Your Why

To achieve anything in life will require a certain amount of discipline and consistency. But when you choose to become disciplined and consistent to succeed and reach your goals there is no end to what you can achieve.

Being disciplined is focusing on the result you really want. Whether it’s a goal to weigh a certain amount, to finish your studies, to write a book, to pursue a dream, to save money, or go on a trip, there are always certain steps to take. The first step is to:

Determine your goal – Clarity helps us achieve, so it’s really important to be clear about what you want, to write down your goals and to focus on the positive. When you make a goal it’s not just, “I want to lose weight but, “I will weigh this amount by a certain date”. Or, “I will read 12 books by 31st Dec – 1 book a month”.

The next step is to:

Know Your Why – Why do you want to achieve this goal, why do you do what you do? Often the missing piece in planning to achieve our goals and become the best version of ourselves is knowing our WHY.

Most of us have heard about having clear goals, a vision board and staying focused on our goals. However can you give a concise reason for why you want to achieve these goals?

For example why do you want to read more? Your why could be because you want to start your own business, be able to run your department, learn to be an effective leader or because you know the most successful people make a commitment to continual learning and therefore you need to read more to achieve these things.

Determine you goals and then LIST the reasons why each goal is important and worth the effort to achieve.

Knowing your why is so important. “People and organisation who know their why enjoy greater long-term success, gain greater trust and loyalty amongst their employees and customers and are more forward thinking and innovative than their competitors.” – Simon Sinek – Find Your Why

Jesus is a great example of knowing why. “For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2). Why, because He loves you and knew that there would be great joy on the other side of his sacrifice. His why in going to the Cross was, is and will always be you and His ability to set you free from those things that would keep you from knowing Him and being able to live your best life.

When your why is in alignment with God’s purposes for your life all of heaven will be on hand to help you succeed!

“I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13)

With God’s help we will do mighty things” (Psalm 108:13 NLT)

Today take some time to write down your goals, but determine as you set them to know your WHY.

As you know your why it will become easier to focus, stay motivated to reach your goals and have a reason to do those things that you might not feel like doing first thing in the morning or after work at night. Knowing your why helps you make the best decisions rather than settling for what is comfortable in the moment or when it takes effort.

Find your why and you’ll find your way!

Prayer: Lord thankyou that you love me so much and that I am your why. Please help me to set some goals and to know my why for what I want to achieve and the person I desire to become. Thank you that I can do all things because you give me strength today. In Jesus name Amen.
