Our third daughter Rebekah has started a new job this past month and secured some new clients for her small business. These new developments are her dream job and what she has been busy studying at university and working towards.
Over the years, Rebekah has given her time and skills to others but has sometimes become discouraged at her bank account not being what she would have liked. I’ve frequently reminded Bek that she can’t outgive God and that every time she gives to others, God sees and will reward her if she keeps a sweet attitude. This week, God has proven that again in the form of employment and in her getting new clients.
It reminded us that you can’t outgive God. He takes notice of our giving, sharing of our gifts and abilities, and the position of our hearts in the process.
Giving is a principle that God has established. He says if we see our giving to him and others as a seed like any other thing God has made to grow and multiply, it will bear fruit.
“Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your store of seed and will increase the harvest of you righteousness. You will be enriched in every way to be generous on every occasion, and your giving through us will produce thanksgiving to God.” (2 Corinthians 9:10-11)
Plus, giving hugely blesses not just the receiver but also the giver. “The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered.”(Proverbs 11:25).
God asks us to be mindful of being a blessing to others and encourages us to be givers and have a generous attitude and lifestyle. We are created with a huge capacity to love and bless others, and it’s one of God’s ways of bringing increase and blessings into our lives.
Today ask yourself, “What am I living for, and how much priority in my day do I prioritise towards the giving of my time and talents to others.
I encourage you to use what you have in your hand to give right now. See your giving as a seed because God promises He will multiply that “seed of giving” and bless and provide for you as you do.
“Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it. Love makes up for practically anything. Be quick to give a meal to the hungry, a bed to the homeless—cheerfully. Be generous with the different things God gave you, passing them around so all get in on it: if words, let it be God’s words; if help, let it be God’s hearty help. God’s bright presence will be evident in everything through Jesus, and he’ll get all the credit as the One mighty in everything”. (1 Peter 4:10 The Message)
Prayer: Lord, please help me know the reason and purpose for being here and show me where and how I can live to give. In Jesus Name Amen.
