The bible talks about two birds, the eagle and the sparrow. The sparrow is a small, brown bird and seemingly insignificant, yet the bible says God has His eye on the sparrow.
“Aren’t two sparrows sold for only a penny? But not one of them falls to the ground outside your Father’s care. He even counts every hair on your head! So don’t be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows”. (Matthew 10:29-31)
However, it is really important to note that God doesn’t call us sparrows. He notices the little sparrow, but He refers to you being like a magnificent Eagle. (Isaiah 40:31) That’s because God designed you to grow, soar and do great things. He promises His divine power to help you attain mountain heights, just like the eagle. (2 Peter 1:3)
The world desperately needs more Eagles. More adventurous, strong, first-class type people who know who they are, and who their God is. Eagles who will love and encourage those who think they are just sparrows, but who are also not satisfied to settle for anything less than soaring on the heights. They know the view is great up there and that they were born to soar.
Others may feel content to sit and wait while you climb. Instead of pausing for renewal, they camp out where they are. Instead of receiving strength to go higher, they sit back on what they’ve already achieved and settle down into that sparrow’s nest
It’s easy to choose to be amongst those who decide the price is too great and the sacrifice too demanding. It’s more comfortable to sit and watch others climb to the heights, but don’t settle and be satisfied where you are, keep your eyes upwards and move on.
Today start thinking less of yourself as a brown sparrow and more like a majestic eagle, who is not content to roost where it doesn’t belong.
Refuse to flap about at the bottom of the mountain and look up so you too can soar on wings like eagles. That you will run and not grow tired, and will walk and not become weary. (Isaiah 40:31).
“Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary”.(Isaiah 40:31)
“Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle” (Psalm 103:5)
“Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth”. (Colossians 3:2)
Prayer: Lord, thank you that I’m called and equipped to soar on the heights and achieve great things. That you have a plan and purpose for my life that exceeds anything I can even imagine. Please help me to keep looking up and setting my mind and heart on you and who you’ve made me to be today. I’m no brown sparrow. In Jesus name Amen.
