17 April – Being Great

97f29eab5c70f6371d93b0455b2db173

Our kids have been busy playing countless games of monopoly this week and as usual one of our sons maths skills stood out as he collected everyone else’s money. He’s like a walking calculator.

The thing is, he’s grown used to applying the systems and techniques that he’s been taught to work things out in his head or easily on paper. It makes sense to him and he’s  accomplished at being able to solve mathematical problems faster than most.

Every skill we ever learn has specific techniques that enable us to do tasks easier and more proficiently, and it’s in applying these that we achieve success. Unfortunately when we don’t take the time to find out these lessons, take short cuts, or give up half way through that we end up not learning what’s needed and we therefore settle for far less than we should in life. A person may have a nice voice, but with the right techniques and work they can go from being good to being someone we want to really listen to. Just re -watching an athlete earlier on in their career compared to their performance at the height of their game, and you can see what applying the right techniques, training and work can do to cause us go from strength to strength and to achieve our goals.

I want to encourage you today to take what you have already and determine to be great at it. It doesn’t matter what it is, but rather for you to ask yourself the question. “Am I making the most of what I’ve been gifted with and have been given already?”

God will always use what we have in our hands and within us, but He also can do far more in and through us if we will determine to become more accomplished and proficient at all we are and have, rather than staying the same level and aptitude. His plans always exceed what we can imagine, but those plans still do depend on whether we will partner with Him and choose to increase  rather than expecting God to do it all without our input. (Ephesians 3:20)

Today partner with God the Creator and seek to keep developing the gifts and abilities you already have. Many success stories are based upon everyday people taking what they had been given and choosing to simply put in the work to become something special. We can either settle and stay the same, or we can with God become someone who walks in their destiny and also inspires others to do the same.  Which one are you going to choose to be today?

Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank.” (Prov 22:29)

You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.

Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)

Prayer: Lord thank you for the gifts you have given me. I may not be great at anything yet but I ask that you help me to take what I have and with you to continue to grow and develop my skills so that I can make the greatest impact and be all you created me to be. In Jesus name Amen
