17 Jan – How To Just Be

When we had just had our first beautiful baby girl Anna, I was wondering how to do everything I thought I needed to do, when I felt God speak to me and say,  “Just “be” instead of do”.  “Being rather than doing!” What a relief that was. God didn’t expect me to do everything, just simply to be; to be content, to be happy, to be the best I could be and to be in His presence.

Often when I am busy I will hear those words whispered again. “Just be, don’t do”. When I take notice and stop striving to “do”, then everything that needs to happen in my world flows. When I take my attention off Him and get into striving and doing, I always end up in a pickle.

We benefit when we practice “being”. Being in God’s presence, knowing our why and who we are, being at peace and enjoying the life and day we have been given. We all have things to do, but when we make “being” and embracing the moment our focus, all the “to do’s” in our life don’t seem so stressful and we gain perspective about what’s important.

Being busy doing does not necessarily equate to productivity, so take time to know the why behind what you do. It’s when we focus less on doing and more on being who God has called us to be that we can prioritize and manage our time and effort accordingly.

Allow God to help with your schedule and all that you are required to do, so that when you look back at your day it’s about being the best version of yourself. Be instead of do!

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2 NIV)

In Your presence is fullness of Joy; In your right hand there are pleasures for evermore”. Psalm 16:11

Prayer: Lord help me to be still so that I can know what is important. That I will be, rather than just do today. In Jesus name Amen.
