17th Sept - Anxiety, Hurry & Jesus: Finding Peace in Life’s Rhythm

I was reading a thought by Allen Arnold the other day. He said each of us has an internal metronome - a rhythm inside that sets the tempo for how we live.
But what if our inner metronome has been stuck on the fastest setting for so long that we don’t even notice anymore? Hurry and the adrenline that goes with it feels normal. But when that happens it's no wonder we feel anxious, rushed, and worn thin. And when we live like this long-term, even our bodies pay the price. Hormones get out of balance, our energy crashes, and our minds never switch off.
Jesus steps right into that space and says:
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me- watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (Matthew 11:28–30 MSG)
However when hurry and that internal "grind" sets the rhythm, everything in you wears down. But when Jesus sets the rhythm, you find rest - body, mind, and spirit.
Action Step
Before today runs away with you, I encourage you to; Stop. Breathe. Ask: Whose rhythm am I living by - stress and hurries or Jesus'?
Think and Say
“I don’t have to live rushed or live full of striving. Jesus leads me at the pace of grace.”
Verse
“Are you tired? Worn out?… Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.” (Matthew 11:28–30 MSG)
my
"Peace I leave with you; My [perfect] peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. [Let My perfect peace calm you in every circumstance and give you courage and strength for every challenge." (John 14:27 Amp)
Prayer
Jesus, thank You that I don’t have to live at the pace of hurry or pressure. Please teach me to walk with You, to breathe deeply, and to find Your peace in the middle of my day. Calm my heart, reset my rhythm, and help me live freely and lightly with you. In Jesus' name Amen.
