3 Sept - “Cast Your Cares and Find Peace: How to Live Free From Worry”

Updated: 8 hours ago

This week in my quiet time I’ve been reading through 1 Peter, and I was reminded how practical and real God's word is for our everyday lives. It doesn’t just talk about “big” spiritual things - but gets right into the stuff we deal with daily: drama, stress, pride, worry, even the battles in our minds.

What stood out to me is how 1 Peter gives us a kind of roadmap for staying steady when life gets loud. Peter (a disciple of Jesus - you know the water walking one) He says: don’t get caught up in other people’s business, stay humble, keep doing good, and cast every single care onto Jesus. It sounds simple, but when we live this way, we actually shut the door on discouragement and step into peace.

I think it’s exactly what so many of us need right now. So let’s lean into Peter’s teaching together.

Don’t make trouble

Not everything we face in life is because of our own choices - but sometimes, let’s be real, trouble comes because we’ve stepped into things we shouldn’t. Peter is clear about this:

“If you suffer, however, it must not be for murder, stealing, making trouble, or prying into other people’s affairs.” - (1 Peter 4:15 NLT)

In other words: don’t create drama, don’t meddle in other people’s business, and don’t waste energy on things that distract you from your own race. Instead, “keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you.” - 1 Peter 4:19 (NLT)

Stay humble

Peter also says: “Dress yourselves in humility… humble yourselves under God’s mighty hand.”- (1 Peter 5:5–6).

Humility doesn’t mean thinking less of yourself - it means not putting yourself above others. Whether it’s with friends, at work, at home, or in leadership, we’re called to serve and lead by example, not by control.

Cast your cares

Anxiety, stress, and pressure will always try to weigh you down - but Jesus gives us another way: “Cast all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you.” -  (1 Peter 5:7 NLT).

I often picture throwing all my worries into one of those giant roadside skip bins and handing it over to Jesus. That’s what it looks like to cast your cares - you don’t carry them anymore. And remember: He doesn’t just put up with you - He tenderly cares for you.

Stay alert

If we don’t hand our cares to Jesus, they can open doors for discouragement and doubt. That’s when the enemy tries to hit hardest. Peter warns:

“Be well balanced and always alert, because your enemy the devil roams around incessantly like a roaring lion looking for its prey to devour. Take a decisive stand against him and resist his every attack with strong, vigorous faith.” - 1 Peter 5:8–9 (TPT)

Know your enemy

The Greek word for “enemy” (antidikos) literally means “one who presses a lawsuit.” In other words, the devil is like a prosecutor - accusing, slandering, dividing, discouraging and trying to trap you.

Scripture shows his tactics:

And just like lions target the weak or isolated, he looks for those weighed down or alone. That’s why casting your cares, staying humble, and staying connected to Jesus and others is so important.

Your defence

Peter gives us the blueprint for standing strong:

  • Stay out of trouble and other people’s affairs.

  • Humble yourself before God and walk in His grace.

  • Keep doing good even when life is hard.

  • Cast your cares on Jesus - every single one. You don't have to carry them.

  • Stay alert, knowing discouragement is one of the enemy’s biggest traps.

And the promise? “The God of all grace… will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.” - 1 Peter 5:10 (NIV)

You’re never left to fight on your own. Jesus is always with you. As you humble yourself, keep doing good, and hand over your worries, you begin to walk in His ways and know Him more deeply. And it’s in that place of closeness that His strength rises in you, guiding and steadying you step by step.

Action Steps

  1. Check your lane – Are you meddling in someone else’s business? Step back and refocus.

  2. Pray it off – Write down your top 3 worries today and give them to God in prayer.

  3. Practice humility – Look for one way to serve someone quietly without recognition. Not seeking praise or recognition shows where our heart is at and helps us remain humble.

  4. Stay alert – Notice the enemy’s patterns of discouragement or how he tempts you to mess up and resist him with God's truth and putting your faith to work.Action Steps

Think and Say

“I don’t need to carry my own worries or fight battles in my strength. I will stay humble, keep doing good, and cast all my cares on Jesus.”

Prayer

Lord, thank You that You care for me more than I can imagine. Please help me to stay humble, focused, and not get caught up in things that distract me from you and your best plan for my life. I cast my cares on You and leave them in your hands. Please protect me from the enemy’s lies and attacks, and make me stronger, and more steadfast in You. In Jesus' name Amen!

Stay humble. Keep doing good. Cast your cares. Jesus is with you every step, strengthening you as you walk in His ways.
