I was thinking this week about how people can go through life plodding. I’ve even heard myself say, “Oh, I’m just plodding along.”
The thing is I don’t think God made us plodders. We are made in His image, and there is no way the God of the Universe is a plodder. Instead, He says that those who trust in Him, will soar on wings like eagles and run and not grow weary or faint. (Isaiah 40:31)
I believe God wants us to practice being; Being in His presence and reading His Word so that we can know Him and ourselves better. As we take time to be, we discover our destiny, and as a result will choose to run with purpose and clarity (rather than plodding), when we move.
What if, as Jesus had called Peter to “Come to him” he hadn’t walked on water but had started to run? Perhaps he would have forgotten all about the wind and the waves and just focused on running to his goal – “reaching Jesus”. He would have become known as Peter, who ran on water and didn’t sink! (Matthew 14:22-23)
Or how different history would be if, as David approached the giant Goliath, he’d walked up to fight him instead of running into battle. The bible says that “As Goliath moved closer to attack, David quickly ran out to meet him.” (1 Sam 17:48) I think the fact that David ran at Goliath was part of his success. He’d decided to win and ran to achieve it.
The bible says “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize”. 1 Corinthians 9:24
To be a runner, you have to know why you are running and who goes before you.
David knew that the battle was the Lord’s, and he knew God was before him. He was running towards his destiny.
Paul knew the race that God had set for him when he said, “we are all runners and to run our race focused on the prize” – Jesus and His plan and purpose for our lives.
Isaiah 40:29-31 reminds us that “even youths grow weary and faint, but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength”. Not only that it says that, “God gives power to the faint and to those who have no might he increases strength”.
You are created to run; to run well, with strength and endurance until the finish. God has given you the capacity to be a marathon runner, and in Him, you have all you need. Plus you have all of heaven cheering you on! (Hebrews 12:1-2)
Therefore RUN:
Knowing that God goes before you. (Duet 31:8)
Keeping your focus on Jesus regardless of the wind, waves, or the “noise” around you. (Hebrews 12:2)
Having your hope in God and His promises so that you will run and not grow weary or faint. (Isaiah 40:31)
Remembering God will increase your strength and power and that He will do exceedingly more than you can ask, dream or think. (Eph 3:20)
Run today; You’re made to win!
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith” Hebrews 12:1-2
“Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.” (Duet 31:8 NLT)
Prayer; Lord, I fix my eyes on you and choose to run into all that you have for me. I expect to win today and to achieve all that you have planned for me. In Jesus name Amen.
