I read today of someone who even though they are very wealthy, with homes all around the world and more money in their bank account than most would be able to spend reasonably in a lifetime, yet they still long to feel completely secure.
Secure means to feel safe, stable, and free from fear or anxiety. It’s this true heart security that all of us desperately need, and it is something God wants to give us. Placing our security in jobs, possessions, our bank account, relationships, our abilities or our appearance will ultimately only leave us in constant fear and perhaps even envious of others’ success.
Being secure in an insecure world comes from knowing God is looking after us and that we can trust Him.
Many people say that they believe there is a God. But trusting God is different. Trusting God means relying upon Him for the big things in life as well as the everyday decisions and circumstances we face. We learn to trust Him because we’ve come to understand that He cares about and loves us and that our life is in His hands.
It’s this trust we see in the bible as we read the accounts of the lives of David as he ran boldly out to fight the giant Goliath, in the faith of Queen Esther approaching the King uninvited knowing she could die, in Daniel in the Lion’s den, or Paul as he suffered shipwreck, snake bite, stoning’s, death threat’s and imprisonment.
Being secure in an insecure world means that even when we don’t deserve, don’t understand the why’s, what if’s or even what the future fully looks like that we can rely on God because He is good. Because He is good we can expect good things and rest assured in His strength, power and love to empower and sustain us through every circumstance and season of our lives.
In an insecure world God is the only one who can truly make us feel free from fear and anxiety. He wants to keep us secure, which means he wants to hear about the things that make us the most insecure.
Today be honest with God about the areas you struggle to feel secure in, such as your job, finances, relationships, dating, marriage, your health or the health and wellbeing of your loved ones, your self image or your future. Tell him about these things, cast the burden of insecurity upon Him, discover what His word says about your circumstances and future and then rest assured He has everything under control.
“He stooped down to lift me out of danger from the desolate pit I was in, out of the muddy mess I had fallen into. Now he’s lifted me up into a firm secure place and steadied me while I walk along his ascending path”. (Psalm 40:2 TPT)
“And the effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever. My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.” (Isaiah 32:17-18)
Prayer: Lord please help me to face the things I feel insecure about today and to share them with you so that you can take the weight and burden of them so that I might live free. In Jesus name Amen.
