We have so much potential; far more than most of us can fathom or even contemplate but too often we can short change ourselves, let our pasts dictate to us and limit our capabilities because we never think bigger than where we presently are at, or talk ourselves out of what is possible through one reason or another.
God however says we are made in His image and likeness and when we connect and are in relationship with Him His capabilities, wisdom, power and supernatural ability becomes ours. God even surmises that if we can achieve the vision and dreams we have for our lives entirely by ourselves then they’re not big enough. We wants to partner with us to walk out the purposes and plans that we were created for, but we were never created or destined to live those purposes apart from Him.
Jesus actually said we would do greater works than what He did whilst He walked the earth. That would mean that we would be preaching, healing diseases, opening blind eyes and deaf ears, casting out demons, setting the oppressed and captives free, proclaiming good news, and being full of grace, power and joy. He also stated that He had come that all mankind could experience a life that is overflowing and full of abundant joy and purpose. (John 10:10)
It has been said that our potential is God’s gift to us, and what we do with it is our gift to Him. However how often are those gifts and abilities that God has placed within us left unexplored and underused. Perhaps it is because we fail to dedicate ourselves to fulfilling our God-given potential and we become distracted by what everybody else is doing and being around us, instead of taking time to discover who God has uniquely called and made us to be. In doing so we can then fail to ever reach the highest and best life for which Jesus said He came to give us.
The bible has some words of wisdom regarding reaching our potential and being focused. It says, “Set your gaze on the path before you. With fixed purpose, looking straight ahead, ignore life’s distractions. Watch where you are going! Stick to the path of truth, and the road will be safe and smooth before you. Don’t allow yourself to be side-tracked for even a moment or take the detour that leads to darkness.” (Proverbs 4:25-27)
Today I encourage you to dedicate yourself to reaching your full potential and finding out who and what God has placed and created inside of you. Concentrate on continually moving forward as each day you seek to explore, discover and become a little bit better than you were yesterday. If you feel like you’ve wasted the day, made mistakes or suffered difficulties take note, reflect upon what you can learn from these things and then choose to let the past go and move on.
A Spanish proverb I read recently wisely states, “He who does not look ahead remains behind”
“We can’t gain momentum moving toward tomorrow if we are dragging the past behind us.” (Jack Hayford)
Life is a gift and precious so let’s not waste a day regretting what we can’t change, but instead look to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. Look to Him and choose to make the most of the gifts and potential you have residing on the inside of you. Today decide to “Go for it,” for you’re not alone and have the resurrection power of Jesus on the inside of you and all of heaven cheering you on.
“As for us we have all of these great witnesses who encircle us like clouds. So we must let go of every wound that has pierced us, and the sin we so easily fall into. Then we will be able to run life’s marathon race with passion and determination, for the path has been already marked out before us. We look away from the natural realm and we fasten our gaze onto Jesus who birthed faith within us and who leads us forward into faith’s perfection.” (Hebrews 12:1-2 TPT)
Prayer: Lord thankyou for the potential you have placed inside of me. Would you help me to make the most of the gifts and ability I have, and that I would choose everyday to focus on what I can do to be a little bit better than yesterday. Please help me to let go of the past and to continue to move forward. In Jesus name Amen
