Whether we realise it or not we are all being led by one thing or another. For some it is the crowd and peer pressure and what everyone else is saying and doing. For others it is their emotions, pressures, fears or their own desires. These leadings can direct us to good or they can lead us into trouble depending on who and what we are listening to.
Unfortunately far too often we can be governed by our emotions, fears or the pressure of our lives and sadly very easily we can end up doing and being someone we never envisaged which results in a life of regret instead of joy and fulfilment.
Yet God has a better way for us to live and it comes with us being led by Him. When He leads He promises He will guide us away from danger, disappointment and harm and into blessing. It may look different to what we’ve planned but if we keep walking with Him and following His leadings the end result will always exceed anything we could have thought, dreamed or possibly imagined for our lives. God wants to fill our lives with meaning, purpose, healthy blessed relationships and everything going well for us in every area of our lives. (3 John 2)
“He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream, and exceed your wildest imagination! He will outdo them all, for his miraculous power constantly energises you.”(Ephesians 3:20 TPT)
I’ve found that if I am struggling to follow God’s lead it’s often because I’m doubting His love and goodness towards me. Instead I’ve inadvertently started to expect negatives and disappointment rather than blessing and peace, which results in me wanting to steer and direct my life rather than allowing Jesus to “take the wheel”.
Today examine who or what is leading you. Is it the crowd, those strong personalities in your world, fears, the past, pressures of life, money, or your own desires which seek to always do things your way, yet you are failing to be or become what you really desire?
If need be take the time to renew your thinking about what His plans and heart for you are by getting to know Him and His promises and who He is and what sort of life He desires for you. Then move over and let “Jesus take the wheel”.
“Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with Him and He will lead you wherever you go. Don’t think for a moment that you know it all, for wisdom comes when you adore him with undivided devotion and avoid everything that’s wrong. Then you will find the healing refreshment your body and spirit long for.”(Proverbs 3:5-8 TPT)
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”(James 1:5 NIV)
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”(Jeremiah 29:11 NIV)
Prayer: Jesus I’m choosing to give you the “wheel” today, and to let you lead and guide me in the way I should go. Please remind and help me when I get afraid or slip into wrong thinking about you, which only causes me to push you aside so that I do things my way again. You take the lead today and I will follow. In Jesus name Amen.
