The last few days our youngest child Isaac has been making a thankful list of 100 things He is thankful for and can celebrate and be joyful about. He’s got happier and happier the bigger his list has gotten.
The thing is, there is real power in giving thanks and celebrating. It’s a mighty spiritual weapon that God gives us to keep perspective, our hearts soft and to combat disappointment, despondency, heaviness and tiredness. It’s the power of giving thanks and rejoicing that reminds us we are loved and accepted by God, that He is in control, has a plan and that everything is in fact going to be all right!
Philippians 4:4-9 instructs and encourages us to rejoice; to celebrate the good things in life. To think on those things that are true and pure and praiseworthy. And when we do, God’s peace will be with us.
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God
Regardless of what’s going on in our lives right now, we have so much to celebrate and be grateful for. Sometimes the best thing for us to stop and give thanks and to get some perspective on what we do have in our life.
Today stop for a moment and think of all the things (big and small) that you can give thanks for and to celebrate about your life right now. Then like Isaac write it down and put it somewhere you can see it to remind you throughout the day. Why not try making a list of 100 things to be thankful for – 10 things a day will get you started, and if people are on your thankfulness list why not let them know they’re special to you and bless them too.
“Make your life a prayer. And in the midst of everything be always giving thanks, for this is Gods perfect plan for you in Christ Jesus“. (1 Thessalonians 5:18 TPT)
Prayer: Lord thank you. Thank you for all that you have given me and blessed my life with. Please help me to remember those people and things that I can be thankful for, if I’d only stop a moment and see how much good is in my life. Please help me to do that today. In Jesus name Amen
