There are times when the reality we are looking at is very different from what we have invisaged or thought our life would look like. We’ve prayed, believed and kept on standing, but somedays it just doesn’t “look” great…..
That’s when what Jesus once said to His disciples while they were in the midst of a storm at sea comes into play. Instead of freaking out or commiserating over their predicament and the risk to all their lives Jesus said, “Be of good cheer.” (Mark 14:22-24) “Be of good cheer,” we say, “Really you can’t be serious.” “Have you seen my week, my bank account, my family, my job, you can’t be serious!”
The sometimes perplexing and even annoying thing about God at these times is that He is completely serious, primarily because He is not moved like we often are by the storm or that our boat looks like it is breaking apart, that we seem to be sinking or what the reality in front of us looks like. No, God is not moved by any of that because He always, always has a plan, and the truth is that what we often focus upon and the reality we see is not actually the reality God sees.
God’s reality rests in the realms of faith and the supernatural, outside of time and space where impossible things happen, where supernatural breakthrough’s are the norm and where faith is the reality, “where we are sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see”. (Hebrews 11:1)
As we go through our everyday life what we believe and see in God’s Word; what He has spoken to our hearts and quickened in our Spirit’s will often be very different from what we initially can see in the natural. The question is who and what do we believe? Our circumstances and the stormy conditions or what God reveals through His Word, to our Spirit and the depths of our heart?”
Who’s reality do we focus on, talk about, believe and be moved by? For, “we have been trained to think that reality is what we can see in the natural. Actually the person who is not living in faith is the one who is not living in reality. Faith is your title deed, the proof of your legal ownership of what you are praying for. Faith is your reality!”(M Munroe)
Jesus said, “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.”(John 15:7). In other words repeat back to Jesus what He speaks to us, because as we do we will enter the faith realm where what He says becomes our reality. Faith always chooses what God says over the circumstances and what we see in the natural, and makes that our reality. Faith enables us to trust in His words, His faithfulness to His promises and His love and care for us, which then causes us to be of good cheer.
Today I want to encourage you to keep believing and speaking of God’s goodness and the impossible things He can bring to pass. God is faithful to fulfil His word and “calls things that are not as though they were.” (Romans 4:17) Get in agreement with Him and keep agreeing with what He has said; repeat His words back to Him, align your life with His Word and ways, surround yourself with people who believe what God says, and let “faith become your reality” rather than anything or anyone else.
Prayer: Lord I believe your Word and that when I pray and speak back to you what you have said that all of heaven goes into action to make it so. Please lead and guide me today as I choose to make faith my reality rather than the things I can see in the natural. Thank you Lord that I see with eyes of faith today. In Jesus name Amen.
