20th Aug -Stay Focused on Your Purpose: Small Steps, Big Breakthroughs

You don’t cut down a tree in one swing. It’s not the first strike of the axe, or even the second. It’s the consistent, focused rhythm of blow after blow that weakens the trunk until the whole tree finally falls.

That’s what life, and faith often feels like. We can pray once and don’t notice any change. We believe once and don’t see the miracle. But God’s promises remind us it’s the steady, focused, repeated action that makes the difference. Staying connected to Jesus, being faithful in prayer, in belief, and in doing good even when we don’t see results right away.

It’s the same with your unique purpose. God has placed something in your heart - a dream, a calling, a direction. But it doesn't usually happen with one giant leap. It happens through small, persistent steps in the same direction. Consistency builds momentum. Focus keeps you on track. And persistence ensures the breakthrough.

A lumberjack knows better than to look around while swinging the axe - one distraction could be deadly or cause them to lose a limb. In the same way, distraction and comparison can damage and cut us off from what God’s called us to. Don’t waste your energy watching what everyone else is doing. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and keep striking the"tree" in front of you.

“Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.” (Proverbs 4:25–26 NIV)

And remember; it's not the first cut that brings the tree down. It’s steady, focused persistence. The same is true with your life - keep showing up, stay sharp, (a blunt ax is dangerous and takes more effort to use) and don’t look away from the purpose God has set before you. "At the appointed time you will reap a harvest if you don't give up". Galatians 6:9

Action Steps

  1. Choose your focus – Name and write down the dream or calling God has placed in your heart.

  2. Stay consistent – Take one small step every day toward that purpose.

  3. Don’t look around – Stop comparing. Distraction only weakens your swing and causes injuries.

  4. Stay sharp – Stay grounded in realtionship with Jesus and who He says you are - in prayer, God’s Word and being around others who can encourage you to keep your heart right and your energy alive. "Abraham Lincoln said - "If I had six hours to chop down a tree, I'd spend the first four hours sharpening the axe." Stay Sharp!

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the purpose You’ve placed in my heart. Please help me to stay focused on what You’ve called me to, without distraction or comparison. Teach me to show up every day with persistence, trusting that each step matters. In Jesus' name Amen.
