21 Nov – What If?

The two little words behind possibility thinking are, “What if”. Instead of remaining in the mindsets, circumstances and habits that we may find ourselves in, “what if” challenges us to think beyond our present situation and to dare to consider something different..

What if you were brave enough to step out? What if money wasn’t an obstacle to fulfilling the dreams in your heart? What if you were healthy? What if you found that special person? What if God answered your prayer? What if you were free from that addiction? What if?

Without allowing ourselves to consider “what if’s” we will have nothing to focus and look ahead to or anything upon which to direct our faith at. We will inevitably fail to dream or aspire to anything other than what we have right now.

Hebrews 11:1 says, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for”, meaning to begin to believe and activate our faith we first must ask ourselves, “what if” and then dare to imagine, consider, dream and begin to ask for those “what if” things to come to pass.

“What ifs” are the catalyst for transformation in our lives and it’s peoples “What ifs” that can literally change the world.  Every breakthrough in medicine; every record that’s been broken, every new technology, invention, new sound, song, work of art, engineering genius, spiritual freedom, societal change and relationship has begun with someone, somewhere and somehow asking, “What if?”

Today ask yourself “what if” things were different and then start to imagine what that different might look, taste, feel and be like. Because I believe that it only takes a spark of a “what if” in our hearts and minds to start a fire on the inside of us that could change the world.

Jesus said to him, “If you believe, all things are possible to him that believes”. (Mark 9:23)

Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire”. (Catherine of Sienna)

Prayer: Lord I’m asking that you help me to ask and begin to believe and see the possibilities of “what if” things were different. Please heal me from past hurts and disappointments and help me to see what is possible with you by my side. In Jesus name Amen.
