21 November - Are You Listening?

I was chatting with one of our kids today, and they explained that they were confused by the many voices they were hearing regarding how they were feeling. They knew how they felt, but lots of people talking to them could also cause them to feel a little confused about some decisions that they had to make about the future.

We can easily get confused if we listen to all the "voices" around us, especially when we miss taking time to seek to hear God's quiet voice speaking to us.

Plus, someone will always tell us what we want to hear if we look hard enough. This is why it's a good idea to watch our hearts remain uncluttered from our motives, issues, unforgiveness or fears so that we aren't deceived into hearing, doing and acting outside of what is God's best for us.

God speaks in many ways; through the Bible, through a quiet voice within us, through miracles, supernatural means, natural means, through our experiences, trials, visions, dreams, trances, through our minds "seeing" a part of a sentence or just a single word that we may not even understand at the time. He speaks to us by impressions, which often communicate knowledge, and by preachers, teachers, prophets, and others. It's just whether we have ears and hearts to hear.

God calls and speaks to us whether we already know Him or have never spoken with Him before, so I encourage you to ask Him to speak to you in whatever way He wants today.

Write what you are "hearing" and seeing down. I practice the little things as well as the big ones. When you start to choose to listen actively, you suddenly come to realise just how much God has been speaking and looking out for you the whole time.

The Bible says, "Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the LORD". (Jeremiah 29:12-13)

I can guarantee that you will start to sense him speaking to you if you take the time to listen and seek God's voice. Maybe the question then is, "What will you do when you do hear Him speak"?

Prayer: Lord, please give me ears to hear and eyes to see the things you want to reveal to me. Forgive me when I have pushed you aside or listened to other voices rather than yours. Please help me to know you more Jesus, and to be sensitive to you leading me today. In Jesus Name, Amen.
