A good question to ask ourselves is, “is what am I doing and believing today getting me closer to who I want to be tomorrow? Or am I stuck?”
I’ve discovered that getting stuck at a certain point in life is often due to fear. Most people like to ‘stay safe’ or remain where they are rather than risk failure or face things they are afraid of.
However, to move forward, there will come a point where we will need to recognize the fears, habits, beliefs and mindsets that are keeping us from taking action and living our best life. It might be fear of being judged, hurt, suffering loss, or disappointment, but once we acknowledge and recognise these things, we can actively seek to deal with them.
Jesus wants us to be free and offers to help us work through and identify what may be keeping us stuck and for us to question and encourages us to challenge our thoughts, what we believe and our subsequent habits and align them with His best for our life. (Romans 12:2)
Living free and being able to move forward in life also means creating new habits. It always seems out of place and strange when you do something new for the first time. But the second time you do it, it feels less odd.
It’s helpful to focus on the new rather than the old so that our new thought patterns will start to unstick our old way of thinking to create new thought pathways, which subsequently create new choices and ways of doing things.
Today, take the time to challenge your thought patterns, habits, what you believe about yourself, and what stops or hinders you from moving forward.
Seek God as to how he looks at your life and anything you are going through, and ask him to break off the past, any bondages, negative habits or mindsets so that He can guide you into your future. With Him, you can do all things. (Philippians 4:13)
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2)
“Keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising him always. Put into practice the example of all that you have heard from me or seen in my life and the God of peace will be with you in all things.” (Philippians 4:809 TPT)
Prayer: Lord, please help me face my past and the things I believe and break anything off my life that is not from you. I want to move forward and be all you made me to be, so please help me take steps forward today. In Jesus name Amen.
