The bible teaches that when you have a relationship with Jesus and invite him into your life, you are complete in him and have everything you need for life. (Colossians 2:10) That you are a success and not a failure, blessed, have the mind of Christ and are equipped to prosper at everything you put your hand to.
Yet, we can carry within us beliefs that hinder our confidence and success and which can short circuit God’s best for our life. Beliefs about our capabilities, looks, skills, our future and ability to succeed.
Just have a listen to your inner dialogue – your self-talk on any given day, and you will soon discover the limiting beliefs and lack of confidence you have hiding beneath the surface, keeping you from achieving your goals and living your best life.
How often do you think and believe you will fail, rather than have an expectation to succeed at what and who you are in every area of your life.
If you know or realise you have limiting beliefs and lack self-confidence, some keys to move forward are to:
Identify and make a list of limiting beliefs that you know are contrary to what God says about you and are keeping you stuck.
Determine what God says about you and how you want to be, act and believe. Then start to say what God says as you replace your negative self-talk with what He says about your life.
Take time to remember and acknowledge your accomplishments. It’s much easier to focus and remember our failures. But it’s important to acknowledge all the little successes we have had as well as the big things. Recognizing our smaller achievements helps us build confidence that we can succeed and have the life we desire and that you can learn new things, persevere and have what it takes to be successful.
Start by dividing your life into three equal time periods. Write down four successes you’ve had in each of those periods. If you get on a roll with this exercise, then continue to write down 100 successes you have had in your life. Graduating high school, getting your license, learning to build something, winning an award, finishing your course of study, mastering how to cook, losing weight, overcoming an addiction or bad habit – start to see all the things you have accomplished and perhaps take for granted as a success.
Soft Prod – The key is to start small with low-risk tasks. I call it taking a soft prod at something which challenges you. Do new things, learn a skill, take small risks as often as possible. Self-confidence is a result of stepping out and attempting something new or challenging.
Imagine, visualize and speak the perfect outcome. Your brain does what it thinks you want, and it knows what you want by the words of your mouth. Change your dialogue through what you imagine (visualize) and speak. Your life goes in the direction of your words, and your words give utterance to your thoughts.
Give up saying I can’t. “I can’t” is a lie. It is incredible what you will be able to learn, experience and achieve in your life if you make the things you want to do a priority and dedicate and believe that they are possible. Choose to believe you can. Determine to learn and find someone who can teach you and then go and do it.
“And in Christ, you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.” (Colossians 2:10)
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)
‘There are far, far better things ahead than any you leave behind”. I’m believing for you to do and become all that is in your heart, and that you would begin today.
Prayer: Lord, thank you that I am complete in you and that you empower me to live life to the fullest. Would you please help me put into practice those keys that will help me build my confidence, achieve my goals and make a impact for good. In Jesus name Amen.
