I’ve been thinking about how easy it is to be taken off our purpose and mission in life. In other words how we can allow ourselves to get distracted and then before we know it we are totally off course. For me if I’m honest I think other people and their opinions and issues is usually what causes me to get distracted and to lose my focus. More often than not I should just not engage with certain types of people or the issues they get wound up about.
A simple solution to avoiding distraction is to realise what distracts us the most and to do less of that! To figure out what’s distracting us from our faith, our purpose, our dreams and our real relationships. When we know what and whom we are to focus on, we can then practice being present in that space. This results in us being better able to come up with ways to do less of what is a distraction, and more of what is important to us.
Instead of getting distracted we figure out what God is doing for and in us and then as Bob Goff says, “we choose to do a bunch of that. Don’t look at everyone else, but look at how God has made you and do that.”
Take some time this week to find out what you want, who you are and what you are called to be and do. Then do what it takes to get what you want. It’s amazing I think to realise what we are all capable of doing and being, if we do less of what is a distraction and more of what we really want and are seeking to become.
Today I encourage you to figure out what distracts you most. Then determine this week to do less of that, and more of what will enable you to become, achieve and have what you want in life.
“And the LORD answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.” (Habakkuk 2:2)
“But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!” (John 15:7 NLT)
Prayer: Lord please help me to become very focused and purposeful in my day and to figure out what I actually want, and to do more of that, and less of anything that distracts me from that purpose and plan. In Jesus name Amen.
