23 Feb - Tune In To God

I am always amazed at how perceptive a horse is when I'm riding. They can feel a little fly land on their back and are sensitive to our every movement, emotion, and thoughts and, when well trained, will respond in kind.

If we are nervous, a horse will feel it and respond; if we become distracted and unfocused because we are thinking about other things, they too can lose focus; if we're at peace and in control, they gain confidence and trust in us.

Incredibly the slightest change in the tension of your core muscles will cause the horse you are riding to slow or change his gait, and even if you make no other movement but to tense those muscles, 400kg of a horse will feel it and respond accordingly.

God spoke to me recently about the incredible sensitivity of a horse and whispered to my heart, "that's how you are to be". I want you to be so sensitive and in tune with me that at my slightest movement, directive or shift, you perceive what I am doing and respond to me".

That sort of sensitivity to someone or something means we have to focus and not allow ourselves to be distracted by our thoughts, other things going on around us, or our fears and feelings of inadequacy.

Essentially to be that sensitive and in tune, we have to hold God in our hearts, to love Him and to lay aside a lot of what takes up our time, thoughts and energy so that He can easily catch our attention and clearly communicate with us.

God is moving, leading and directing us all the time; the question is whether we listen and choose to be sensitive to His leading, or simply go our own way?

Today take some time to tune in to God; practice quieting your rushing thoughts and emotions and "Be still and know that He is God" (Psalm 46:10). Then respond to what you believe He is saying and allow Him to lead and guide you. He promises that as you do He will, "instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; He will counsel you with His eye upon you." (Psalm 32:8-9)

"Let me hear Your loving-kindness in the morning; For I trust in You; Teach me the way in which I should walk; For to You I lift up my soul." (Psalm 143;8)

Prayer: Lord, thank you that you are always with me and that you desire for me to know you so closely. Please help me quiet my busy heart and mind so that I can learn to be more sensitive to your every word, movement and directive today. In Jesus name Amen.
