25 May - How To Make Good Decisions

Whenever we are trying to do and become our best, whether that's being a great parent, husband, wife, or friend, striving to be great at our job, or pursuing our purpose, it is very easy to get caught up in all the noise and opinions around us.

I remember reading parenting books on pregnancy, feeding babies, toilet training, how to get your kids to sleep, and how to parent a strong-willed child. There were and have always been a lot of opinions about the decisions we make in life, and the more access we have to information, the louder the noise and the less peace and confidence we have in being able to discern what to do and become.

Once you start looking and talking to people, you realise how much advice there is and how often this advice and those advisors can contradict each other. I learned early on to seek God’s wisdom and the advice in His word and those He brought into my world to help, rather than just the loudest or most popular voice. I sought out the truest voice and those who encouraged and strengthened me to live my best life and who could be trusted to be available when I called or needed support.

Nowadays, it’s not toilet training or a lot of parenting advice I seek advice on (our six kids have and are growing up to be pretty amazing humans). Rather, today it was about what steps to take to promote one of my clients. Amid conversation, I realised I was getting caught up in a myriad of opinions, and I needed to switch off the noise and tune into the voices that I trust. The moment I chose to do that, the answers started to formulate, and a plan was implemented.

I chose to lean in on what I already know and to listen to the truest voice, which for me is Jesus and the ones he sends to help and support me, rather than the loud and varied opinions of the world around me.

Today, and as you undoubtedly face the many decisions in your life, I encourage you to pick a few people to listen to most and who encourage you in your faith, strengthen your decisions, support your dreams, and are available to you. Turn off all the other noise and tune into these true voices, which will bring peace and wisdom to your heart and mind.

By the way, the truest voice of all may at first sound like a whisper but if you are determined to listen you'll hear Him loud and clear. (1 Kings 19:12)

For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” (Proverbs 2:6)

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.” (Ephesians 2:17)

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it. (Isaiah 30:21)

Prayer: Lord, thank you that you are the truest voice I know and that you promise to lead and guide me in the way to go. I ask that you also bring into my world those special people who will walk alongside me and will be there to support and encourage me in following you and the purpose you have for my life. In Jesus name Amen.
