26th Mar - God Knows Your Name (Even When You Feel Invisible)

My husband and I have been doing Latin dance classes lately with a group of friends.
It’s been really fun…but also slightly chaotic at times.
You know those moments where your brain is like “yes I’ve got this” and your feet are like “absolutely not”?
That’s been us.
Last week we missed a class, so when we came back, we were trying to catch up.
Our instructor was helping us through the steps and said:
“Dayle, put your hands here… and your feet here…”
And I remember thinking wait… she knows my name?
In a room full of people - most of who we don’t even know, she knew my name.
And it surprised me how much that mattered.
It was such a small thing…
but suddenly I didn’t feel like just another person in the room.
I felt seen and included.
Like it actually mattered that I was there.
And it got me thinking…
If something that small can make you feel known…
how much more does it matter that God knows your name?
Not just your name - but your thoughts, your worries; the secret prayers you haven’t even said out loud yet.
Psalm 139 says:“You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.”
Before you even say the words - He already knows. Before anyone notices - He already sees.
And then I thought about something else.
When you read the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew…
it’s basically a list of names.
Name after name after name.
And it can be easy to skim past it.
But those names matter.
Because they represent people. Families. Generations. Real lives.
And what I love is that tucked into that list are names like Rahab and Ruth.
Women. Outsiders. From different cultures. People who once would have been seen as enemies.
And yet…they’re named and included in the lineage of Jesus.
They're speifically named and remembered.
Not because they were perfect.
But because they were redeemed.
Brought in. Restored. Given a place in God’s story.
It’s like God is saying:
“I see you. I know your name. You belong here.”
And that’s still true for us today.
You are fully known…and still fully loved.
Not overlooked. Not forgotten. Not just another face in the room.
Known.
I think a lot of us wonder sometimes:
Do I matter here? Does anyone notice me? Am I just blending into the background?
But the truth is you are never invisible to God.
And maybe there’s something else in this to remember too.
Because if being known - even just by name - can change how someone feels, then maybe we can be the ones who give that to others.
To remember a name, to say it. That we take time to notice someone.
It’s pretty simple…but it matters more than you think.
Action Steps
• Take time to acknowledge where you’ve been feeling unseen or overlooked lately
• Remind yourself: God sees you, knows you, and cares deeply about your life
• Intentionally use someone’s name today and acknowledge them - let them know they matter
Think and Say
“I am seen, known, and loved by God. I am not invisible. I belong in His story.”
Bible Verses
“You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.”- Psalm 139:1 (NIV)
“Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.”- Psalm 139:4 (NIV)
“So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife…”- Ruth 4:13 (NIV)
“Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab…”- Matthew 1:5 (NIV)
Prayer
Lord, Thank You that You see me and know me completely. Even in moments when I might feel overlooked, please remind me that I am always seen and matter to You. Thank You that You redeem, restore, and include me in Your story. Please help me walk in that truth, and that I would show others they matter too. In Jesus' name Amen.
