28 June – I AM!

i am who god says i am

I love it when God speaks to us and we hear what He is saying. Recently I was spending some time with Jesus, together with some others when I heard God speak to my spirit and say, “What am I speaking to you; who do I say you are?” It made me stop and think, because who God says we are, and what He is speaking about us is pretty important. He calls over us what is written in our books in heaven, and it’s up to us whether we are listening or not.

Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”(Psalm 139:16)

The bible says He rejoices over us with singing, which makes me wonder what He is singing over us. What song does He specifically sing over us that speaks out what He is calling us to be and become? For He is, “The God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.” (Romans 4:17)

When we hear what He is saying and receive and take hold of it, something creative, dynamic and powerful happens on the inside of us. If we listen and take hold of what God says we start to echo back or “sound back” to God our “song” and what He says about us. It’s like the deep things within us, calling to the deep things in God – deep calling to deep!

The bible says it this way, “Deep calls unto deep at the noise of your waterfalls; All Your waves and billows have gone over me. The Lord will command His loving-kindness in the daytime, And in the night His song shall be with me.” (Psalm 42:7-8)

“The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” (Zephaniah 3:17)

It’s not just about having head knowledge of what “God says about us or that He calls us this or that.” God deposits what He specifically calls us in our spirits, and then we get revelation in our minds. That’s why sometimes we may get a sound or a song that we simply have to let out. It’s our spirit wanting to “sound back” to God what He has called and sung over us. That may sound strange to some, but we are more than flesh and blood; we also are spirit, and it’s our spirit’s that “hear” from God first, and then our minds receive revelation of who He is, and who we are.

An example of this happened while having my regular quiet time with God a few years ago. I started to see myself running long distances and then God started to call and speak over me, “you’re a runner”. I wondered what on earth He was talking about. But He persisted over several weeks until I chose to listen and respond. Then I started to see and speak about myself like He was. I brought running shoes and began a running program. Today I’m not an Olympic athlete but I do run most days, and I no longer run for a few minutes but for kilometres at a time.

God called something over me about whom He said I was, and I responded by getting in agreement with what He had said. This caused something dynamic and powerful to go off on the inside of me.

What God called me superseded anything I might have called myself. It superseded my inability and replaced it with His strength and consistency. What He called and sang over me went beyond my fears and doubts, to replace them with His confidence and endurance, and today I am the fittest, strongest and healthiest I have ever been.

Today “who does God say you are?” What has God deposited on the inside of you that you need to listen to and “sound” back to Him. Receive and respond to His call today and become all that He is singing over you to be.

Prayer: Lord please help me to listen to what you are calling me, so that I might hear and respond back to you. In Jesus name Amen.
