3 April – What are your core beliefs?


Core beliefs are basic beliefs about ourselves, other people and the world in which we live. Our beliefs rest deep within us and our thoughts, speech and actions hinge upon them. We often think and agree with the thoughts we have without questioning them because that’s inherently what we believe to be true.

The reason our core beliefs are so important is because it determines how we see ours or others worth, value, competence and whether we are loved and safe. Our core beliefs hugely influence and govern the image we have of our life and how other treat us.

If we believe ourselves to be intelligent, successful, attractive, loved and powerful then we live like that is true. We project confidence and people treat us accordingly. If we hold negative beliefs about ourselves then our self acceptance and esteem can be severely battered about by life, our circumstances and other people. If not challenged these beliefs will dictate our futures, our relationships and what path in life we take. Which is why it’s important that we all from time to time examine what we truly believe. Both about ourselves, other people and God. To assess our world view and our expectations.

If on examination we realise we have an expectation of rejection, failure or being unloved this is where God wants to transform things. (Romans 12:2)

It’s so important to acknowledge where we are at and our core beliefs, and then seek to consciously change them to line up with what God says about us. Without acknowledging what we believe and challenging these beliefs when they are unhealthy there can be no real change, for what is at our core will always eventually rise up.

Positive core beliefs affirm. They say, “I am good enough, do try, I am competent, intelligent and worthy and I can and will make it”. All things God repeatedly says in His word about us, and which create in us the capacity to overcome, to keep going and to relate healthily to others.

Today I encourage you to examine your core beliefs. Challenge any negative ones and sit with God and face where that belief has come from, and then allow Him to begin to heal you from any pain, disappointment or trauma. Remember your successes, your hard work, where you’ve done well, your connection with others and how you are loved and accepted by God, the creator of the universe. Allow those truths to settle in your heart and take the time to reaffirm them regularly.

We can be all He says we are, and we can change, grow and develop. God said so, and if He said it then He’ll move heaven and earth to make it so.

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.” ( Jeremiah 1:5)

Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of yow you think. This will empower you to discern Gods will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in His eyes. (Roman’s 12:2-TPT)
