5 April – Above All Else, Love

Jesus came that we might have overflowing, abundant life. and part of that life is encouraging us to learn to love and to live our lives in and through that context. (John 10:10; Psalm 91)

Jesus said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself. “(Luke 10:27)

Even if you were to give everything up for the poor or understood all the mysteries of the universe and had great knowledge and faith that could move mountains but had not love, then it would profit you nothing.

What truly matters in the end is whether we learn and live as someone who loves. There is faith, hope and love but the greatest is love. (1 Corinthians 13:1-13)

Today ask yourself how are you going in the love area? Are you seeking to love God more and to also love others? Is love your motivation in the way you live your life; in your choices, behaviours, relationships and conduct?

If not, God says you can come to Him and He will fill your heart so that you can love like He loves. His love poured out in your heart will heal wounds, lift weariness and disappointment and move you with compassion, grace and patience just like He is.

A key to remember is that whenever we feel like we have reached the end of our capacity God’s love, when we ask Him, will flood our hearts and enable us to love with a love that doesn’t run out, or fail.

Alone we can do little, but in Him we can do far more than we could ever have thought possible. (1 Cor 13:4-8)

Because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” (Romans 5:5)

Prayer: Lord please heal and fill my heart with love so that I can really love like you do. In Jesus name Amen.
