Albert Einstein, a man with a brilliant mind, said, "The monotony and solitude of a quiet life stimulate the creative mind."
It seems quietness is an important key to creativity, knowledge, clarity and peace. Plus history also records that Jesus, one of the greatest leaders and influencers of all time, regularly withdrew by Himself to have times of quiet. (Mark 1:35-37)
Jesus knew the value of quiet and focusing on the important rather than the urgent. It enabled Him to offer real help and peace to a confused and agitated world searching for peace and answers.
We can learn a lot from Jesus' example on how to lead lives that impact the world for good but are also not incessantly anxious or stressed by what is happening around us.
I think David, who wrote Psalm 23, also understood the power in finding times of quiet. It's why he was able to write, "He leads me beside quiet waters and makes me lie down in green pastures." It's here that David also had his soul restored. (Psalm 23:1-2 Amplified version)
I've learned its wisdom to learn to have a quiet place where we can stop, breathe, and lean into Jesus. We can do this multiple times a day by tuning our hearts and spirits towards Him, even amid the busyness and activity of the day.
The quieter you become, the more you hear!
Think about the past 24 hours of your life. What external and internal noise in your life keeps you from making sense of your thoughts, hearing God's voice, and finding quiet in Him?
Try this challenge – for one week. Spend five minutes each day sitting with Jesus in quiet.
Don't read, petition, or recite your list of thoughts and requests to him. Just sit and absorb the quiet and the time with Him. What might He say when we stop long enough in the quiet to listen?
Let Him restore your soul and bring you strength. For "In quietness, and confident trust is your strength." (Isaiah 30:15)

Prayer: Lord, please help me to find times of quiet and to know more deeply the peace you desire to bring to my life. Help me to understand what really matters and not get distracted or caught up in those things that would steal my peace, focus, and quietness in my heart and mind. In Jesus' name, Amen.
