6 July – What To Do Instead Of Complaining

I’ve been especially listening to myself the last few days and realising that it is very easy to start complaining when we are frustrated. We can become stuck in negative mindsets, make excuses and end up not doing anything to enact change in our lives or our circumstances.

But complaining is a waste of energy and confirms to ourselves and anyone listening that we believe we are powerless to change. Plus, we get more of what we are complaining about because we attract what we focus on and give voice to.

When we complain, we remain!

The truth is, the only thing complaining does is convince other people that you are not in control. Complaining is a subconscious way of expressing that you are powerless to change your circumstances. When you complain about your debt, you are voicing hopelessness to be financially free. When you complain about your body, you are decreeing impossibilities to be in shape. When you complain about your job, you are expressing despair that it could never improve.” – Terri Saville Foy

If you can use your energy to complain, wouldn’t it be a better use of your time to seek God for his wisdom, direction and with Him make a plan to do something about your complaint? And if necessary, choose to leave what is beyond your control in God’s hands, so you can get on with what you’re called to be and do?

Don’t complain about something you don’t have a vision to change.” – Joyce Meyer

Philippians 2:14 -16 says, “Do everything without complaining and arguing so that no one can criticise you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. Hold firmly to the word of life.” (NLT)

I like this verse in The Message translation too. It says, “Do everything readily and cheerfully—no bickering, no second-guessing allowed!Go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in this squalid and polluted society. Provide people with a glimpse of good living and of the living God. Carry the light-giving Message into the night.” (Philippians 2:14-16 The MSG)

Imagine if you stopped and prayed when you felt like complaining or were frustrated. That you expected God to move, put your faith to work and chose to find something to be grateful for.

Proverbs 18:21 says that our words have the power of life or death in them. When you complain, you remain, but when you are grateful and focus upon all that God says is possible, you become a source of positivity, faith and light to the world.

Today choose to be like a breath of fresh air, carrying light into the darkness.

What you say, pray and believe matters and can change the course of your life and impact others around you powerfully for good.

Let people see and hear the positivity and light in you today as you pray about your concerns, express gratitude, lift your expectation for God to move in your circumstances and refuse to complain.

“Don’t worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts, offer up your prayers and requests to God.Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel.” (Philippians 6:4-7 CEV)

Prayer: Lord, thank you that you love and care for me today and for all the blessings in my life today. I choose to pray about things today rather than complain and thank you that all things are possible with you. In Jesus name Amen
